Newbie here, great forum....just got an 87 BJ71, hardtop, 3B Deisel, 24V, 250,000km, bone stock and in great shape.

The only issue I've found is an inactive oil pressure gauge. While digging around under the hood (new to deisels and 4x4's) I think I found the oil pressure sender (next to the oil presssure switch, under the oil filter?) with a rusted out lead.

Question is....there are three wires/connectors down there. One IS hooked to the oil pressure switch, one WAS hooked to the oil pressure sender (rusted out), and one is just floating around connected to nothing. Can anyone shed some light on the unkown wire (the 3 wires are run in the same split loom) and provide any insight on replacing the rusted out pressure sender?

Cheers

I thought some of the canucks would know this;)
If you get no response try the diesel forum

Shouldnt that be a BJ70 if it has a 3B

my 87 bj70 has a vin # that starts with bj71...one would think that would make it a bj71 as well...

as to the pressure sender, it basically just unscrews from the block so it's pretty easy to replace. make sure you get the correct voltage replacement.

12v ones will read really high if your truck is 24v. and it's not always easy explaining to the parts drones that 24v trucks exist.

.

I thought BJ71 were turbo 13BT engines
If it has a VIN that starts with BJ71 it is a BJ71

When I bought it, the seller had it listed as a BJ71.....but I'm not 100% positive.

The VIN on the dash starts off JT3BJ71
The ID tag on the firewall starts off BJ70LV-MNK

But I definetly know it has a 3B and is 24V. I have ordered a new pressure sender, its being shipped up from the States. The "part's drone" could not tell from her computer screen if it was a 24V sender though....hopefully its stamped on the cover somewhere!

Thanks for the input.

it is a BJ70, a BJ71 is a 13BT engine...
some parts people really are drones but some excell at their job...

My switch on the block is rusted out . I was under the impression that I could take off the switch and run tubing up to the dash and install a unit with gauge on the dash . I already picked one up at princess auto . I just haven't got up the nerve yet to try and take the old one off . It looks pretty bad and I figure it's going to fall apart if I start trying to turn it .
