Which is better and why?
My dad currently has a bj and hes looking at getting a HZJ73 5 speed with electric lockers. Would the 73 be better than a bj74 or even a bj70. Hes had his 70 for 10 years and it is a truly amazing and reliable truck. Whats your opinions. What kind of fuel economy are people getting too with a hzj

The 73 is 10 inches longer and makes for a better ride.
The 1HZ is a great and very reliable engine.
Its so simple doing the work yourself.
It has very few gaskets so you can repair most things in the field by taking along a tube of sealant.
Although it tends to be a very leak free engine;).

The 1HZ has been in production for 20 years next year,so parts will be around for a while yet.

Both of mine get about 12-13/100klms on the road.
Some say the non turbo is too slow ,but I find with a deft hand on the gears,it will easily keep up with the traffic flow and pull well up most hills.

The downside to the 1HZ is the rotary pump tends to wear quicker than the B engine pumps.
Most of them need serious work before the 250000klm mark.
Personally,I wouldnt make that part of my decision, just keep it in mind.

It does have a timing belt that needs doing at 100000klm intervals. Its cheap and easy to do yourself

And of course we want pics and full run down when you get it:D
