Love it…I gave myself the same deadline to wrap up the commonrail swap by signing up for Rubirhon last weekend. See you on the con.

Nice to see this truck being brought back to life again. Gotta meet that takt time!

No turbo on these IDIs for me, thank you very much.

I'll enjoy secondary roads and enjoy the scenery.
Some vehicles don't need to be speed demons! A soft top 70 has got to be fairly light weight too, so that helps.

Today I disassembled a new split case to send the case halves to Georg @orangefj45 to have him machine the case for the 4:1 gearset.

Having the extra crawl ratio and the RR Eaton e-locker in the rear will make the Rubicon a breeze along with sliders, front and rear bumpers and a big belly skid plate.

:)

This is the manual split case not the vacuum actuated unit:

💯 agree. I just love the easy, slow and consistent pace of IDI Toyota diesels. Allows a more enjoyable pace to seeing the American West. Stay off the shïtty and mind numbing highways and the secondary roads are really where it’s at…. Way better food/holes in the wall, way better saloons, hot springs, vast vistas, cute girls, I mean all the good stuff!

What transfer case shift linkage are you using? If the stock stuff, make sure to swap out the 36313-60130 with a 36313-60050 before you re-assemble.

I know you will spot the difference but more than one poor soul has found out the hard way that some vendors don't know about the 2WD-4WD shift shaft length on the 6E181 t-case and they get it 100% assembled and installed just to find out their stock linkage won't work with that longer shaft.

Yup. Ordered 3 years ago! 😂😂

Good reminder for the masses, Kurt. Thanks.

So I’ve been thinking more and more about my BJ70. I’ve owned it now for 12 years and it’s been off the road, basically lawn art since the turbo 3B died almost 5 years ago.

A few take aways:

1. When LCs are your “JOB” working on your own junk becomes less and less fun (especially after doing LCs professionally for almost 20 years). I literally want to be doing anything but turning wrenches at 51.

2. There is nothing like driving a slow old Land Cruiser.

3. Having folks around you that also want to see your Land Cruiser on the road again (colleagues and friends) is good impetus to moving forward on resuscitation.

4. Bikes and Toyotas are a thing. A very good combination. Especially single-speeds and Land Cruisers.

5. I’m grateful to the great network of friends in the LC community that have egged me on to finish my truck and get it back on the road.

6. Land Cruisers are a life long passion that one moves in and out of; just like any passion a human has for any endeavor. Sometimes they mean something; sometimes they don’t mean anything and they are just hunks of material sitting around taking space.

I have many times thought of selling my LC and moving on with my life and buying more bicycles; but that strong feeling of perfection in a well-constructed Land Cruisers has brought me back to reality every time….

And let’s be realistic, chicks dig a rad Land Cruiser and a man who knows how to work on them.

🤘🤘🤘

Good deal on the long splined input gear for Splitcase. Had those on my 70 and now on my 42 and love them. Best investment for a truck that will be off-road.

Is that long splined input gear spec’d to match the 10% underdrive high gear ratio that the 4:1 kit will provide also?

Hope to see you on Rubicon, too, if I can make it out there this year.

Good to see you wrenching again.

-Alberto
