Welds can get a little ugly in confined spots like that, but it doesn't have to look pretty to be strong! Landmark moment to have the drivetrain burned in, its coming together!

Thanks amigo. Funny: the Toyota engine frame bracket welding aren’t that pretty either from the factory. They are robot welds but very primitive from this time period.

Now it’s just integration and testing.

I've been surprised how much spatter is on the frame brackets on my LJ78. Robotic welding technology has come a long way in the last 30 years, I set up a new robotic weld cell at work a couple of years ago and it's amazing what it can do. Ultra clean, smooth welds with basically no spatter and shockingly low heat input.

Yup.

My welds were 40 years old. So basically still in its infancy at Toyota. I want to say the first robotic frame welding started in the mid-late 1970’s at Honsha (frame weld location).

Looks like this now…people only do small brackets…

That fixturing is so cool to see. I ended up building all the weld jigs for the robot at work, they look pretty tame compared to that!

Unfortunately due to some health issues and work obligations, I won’t be able to finish my truck in time for Rubithon this year.

I was hoping to leave to head to Tahoe on 6/20 but shït went sideways with health and my obligations with my profession.

Ergo, no dénouement for this build.

Hoping to make SAS10.
Sorry to hear that, you put in a gallant effort !
God speed to the health issues.
Work will always be there 😉

I hope you get well sooner than later. I'll try my best to do the soft top conversation and converting my FZJ from FZJ73 to FZJ74. This will include the 1FZ-fe with some mokalal. I will maintain OEM catalog the way you like so we can all enjoy it in AZ.

Be well

Ergo, no go.

Hello,

I hope you get well soon.

Take proper care of yourself.

In time, you will complete your truck.
