I've been slowly fixing some things on a new to me 24v BJ70 getting ready for a trip next month. It seems like every time I touch something it just snowballs downhill and I end up fixing a crap load of other items that were otherwise fine (sorry, rant over).

I have been disappointed in the light output of the stock lamps so decided to spend a little money on an "easy" upgrade and ordered some 70 series LED lights from City Racer. The install seems idiot proof so not sure what went wrong but when I powered up the lights, I blew my fuse and pretty sure I toasted the headlight relays. Prior to this install, I've never had an issue with the headlights.

I pulled the LEDs and put my old lights back in but only get light on the high beam setting and only on my left beam. Any ideas of what this means?

I just pulled the relays and was wondering what the spec ohm readings should be. I'm getting 213 on both headlight dimmer and headlight control relays. The relays are pricey so I really hope this kit did not fry my relays.

Thanks in advance

You must be new to Land Cruisers.... what you are describing is the 'Fault Index'. Every Land Cruiser has one... When you fix something, the Cruiser's inherit Fault Index is out of balance, and something else will break to bring it back into balance. The secret to Long term Land Cruiser bliss is dabbling with the faults until you get to the right combination of faults that you are comfortable living with. I have a dash light that is the wrong colour, my Ham antenna keeps on falling off when I slam the hood, and my load levelling air bags have a leak... I can live with that.

Obviously, there was a short circuit somewhere, probably in the reverse switching relay from City Racer. With the fuse changed, are you getting power to the relays? Sometimes, there are fusible links near the battery, in addition to fuses.

Ha! I needed that laugh and now i can blame the "Fault Index" My other option was taking a hammer and blow torch to the rig. I had a FJ40 previously so I'm definitely a newbie learning on the 24v and diesel systems.

I have checked the fuseable links and they are fine. I checked the relay bank and I'm getting 24v to the main headlight relay but nothing at the headlight dimmer. Do the headlights have to physically be on to switch the circuit on the dimmer? I thought I should get power if I moved my headlight switch to bright?

Also, on a whim, i rechecked my other fuses and had 4 blown! What in the world could have gone on in that LED relay?

Is it back to normal now with the replacement of the fuses and the old lamps?

Thanks for the reminder Hugh- I forgot to update. It was actually the reverse polarity relay the caused the issue. My LC came from the factory with standard polarity circuit and when I installed the reverse relay, it toasted the fuses.

I hooked it up without the included relay and everything worked just fine.
