I've noticed a problem on the two BJ70's I've seen, now including my own. The heater control knob doesn't want to move from hot to cold, but the problem doesn't appear to be the cable. Bolted to the firewall under the hood is a funky looking gizmo that looks to control the heat valve. This control doesn't seem to be working properly. Before taking it apart, I thought of running this by you guys since it's probably a common problem with these rigs and someone might know if the problem is likely to be a frozen valve or the mechanism between it and the cable. Thanks, Bret

on mine it was the mechanism. I took it apart, cleaned it up, lubed it with graphite, and now it moves much easier. still not smooth, but I don't have the impression I have to break the switch to get it to move.

It's a long sheathed cable, doesn;t take much corrosion to freeze it up. Run some penetrating oil and work it back and forth.

If it is not the cable it will be the valve itself that is caked up inside. I have had luck in being able to salvage one, on one of my trucks. Take it off, scrape the crap off yoy can access, soak it, work it gently, soak some more...etc.

On mine it was the plastics in the control panel - the slide, or gear broke.
I got the entire assembly from Toyota when on vacation in Canada for I think 50-60$ US.

It make a really suspicious looking xray in the carry-on!
