Hey, after finding out I couldn't import my bj60 to Nica from Canada I sold it. Sad as I spent a lot of dough at EBI and RADD, and it was fine.
I'm letting my wife pick the truck here, its LandCruiser heaven, and they pretty much keep the country moving...see example.
Anyways she loves the bj70, here they advertise different ones as having diff engines. 3b I'm obviously familiar with, heard about of 1pz, but some here advertise "3F". Searching the forum I see a little mention of it, but I can't really get a read on how it compares to the first two, anyone want to briefly inform me I'd really appreciate it.

3F is just an updated 2F. In the USA was sold with EFI in the FJ62. When coupled with the stock auto, it's a bit of a turd (no offense 3FE owners), but i hear it is a sweet motor when coupled with a 5-speed.

Down there it will probably still be a carbureted version. So, expect performance like an FJ40 with a 2F. Maybe a bit more top end. Economy will be in the range of 12 MPG.

If you have the budget, I'd look for a HZJ75 troopie (1HZ diesel motor) HJ61 turbo diesel (12HT turbo diesel motor), HZJ80 (1HZ diesel) or HDJ80 (1HDT turbodiesel). If you are on a limited budget, look for a BJ70. I would avoid buying a Nic 40 or 45 series, as they will be really tired.

In fact, you might also consider looking at the Fortuner (like a 4Runner), Prado, or Hilux 4-door. If it is new enough it will have a 3.0 turbo diesel (2.5 L 2KD-FTV or 3.0 L 1KD-FTV) that is powerful and very economical.

Awesome. This input is why I went to MUD instead of elsewhere. I'm going to look at the diesel options mentioned, and research these other models I wasn't even aware of. Down here I've seen about 4,5 LC's I've never seen up north. For example the ambulances are similar to bj70, but taller and longer, no idea what model Cruiser they are. I'll post again about this, thanks again!

They will be one of the *Z75 Series Family or the 77 or 78 series families (called Troopies)

what is the local cost of diesel and gasoline??- cheap gasoline go gasser

first choices:1hz, 1hd-t, 1pz
Second Choices 12h-t, 13b-t
Third Choices: 3B, 2H

The third and second choices will be harder to get parts for sometimes. But you may get them for cheap.

Go for a 1hz or a 1pz for simplicity sake if the price is right.

Now that i'm on my actual computer... that 80 is a 5-speed 1HZ-powered model. That is the overhead cam, non turbo, six-cylinder. It is an excellent motor that is very easy to get parts for (still made today) and very easy to work on.
The 80 series is a coil-spring truck, and will handle the horrible roads 10x better than the 70-series (short wheel base, leaf spring). 70 series are very cool, and we lust after them in North America because you want what you can't get. But aside from being somewhat more utilitarian than the 80, the 70 series are barely more comfortable than a 40 series. I've spent a bit of time driving around CR and Nic, and I'd prefer an 80 any day of the week (simply for the comfort).

all that being sad, both of those 70s look ok. One is a 3B the other is a 1PZ. All things being equal, I'd lean toward the PZ (which is basically a 1HZ, but missing a cylinder).

Pay attention to the rear cross member of the frame, take a screw driver and poke at it... make sure there isn't any structural rust issues. And the rocker panels (body part under the doors). And the wheel wells above the rear wheels.

If you don't have time for a full compression test on the motor, take the oil filler cap off while it is running to see how much blowby is pushing out the oil galley. If you can lay the cap on loose, and it doesn't get blown off by the fume's pressure, it is probably ok.

good luck.

Thank very much guys.
That little test with the cap off, that's for the 1pz engine?
Rust is something I will check for, from what your saying looks like the same problem areas as 60 series...one thing we've decided is not going to rush decision tomorrow. There's so many different models here...thanks for the post about the 80 too.
They also have a "LandCruiser II" here, looks like a longer 70 with four doors, I'm trying to research what that it too, and what it has under the hood...thanks again!
