alright, i recently freplaced the tach after it quit, now all thats left is the engine temp guage, I picked up a new sending unit , the old onedid not have the wire attached anymore. but now the new one does not work either. i'm sure i have the right wire. I am on dial-up so downloading the manuals is not a realistic option. help :princess:

Hey, Looking at my manual I see one wire going to the water temp sender. Its a Green wire. This wire goes to the gage as well. It also shows a ground at the temp sender unit.

Hope that helps.

thx brwnbear, i traced that wire to the gauge last night and i have continuity through it...maybe it is the guage too??? i'd like to find a way of testing that...just hook up a 9 volt battery to it and see what happens.... :D

check for continuity thru the the sending unit as well. its a resistor so should have some. should not be infinate or open circuit. my books at my office, I will check into it later what else it could be.

I wouldn't put a 9v to it. but you should get some form of power at the sending unit. i'll look at the book this afternoon.

oh as well to check continuity properly, both ends need to be disconnected, otherwise it could be going thru a different path, gives erronous readings.

I was driving sunday and the temp gauged spiked and I started to flip out.. looked over at the Mech gauge and it's 190* and I continued on. Might try cleaning the contacts on the dash gauge. I need to do that with my fuel gauge and see if it make a difference.

From looking at the manual, pwr goes to the gauge and then to the sender unit and finds ground after it. the temp sender is a variable type resistor. If you have pwr at the sender from the gauge the sender is fault.

if you have power to the gauge and nothing out of the gauge, the gauge is fried.

My look at it is the gauge is reading the voltage drop across the sender. Possible when a sender unit goes crap it spikes and takes out the gauge.

Now all of this is based on my reading the wiring diagram, not from actual problems. I hope it helps you troubleshooting. If my theory is way off someone pls tell me. This is how I think it goes. just my 2 cents.
