A friend of mine has a BJ60 with a 3b with only 192 000km's on it. THe Truck has been sitting in a field for 3 years as he has not gone hunting with it for that time.

The Batteries are dead, so we didn't even try to start it. Before he let it sit, it had no mechanical problems.

The Cruiser has some rust, but the frame doesn't seem to have bad rot from what I saw. It has rusty hubs and probably has break issues.

My question is, how much work does it sound like this cruiser would take to get going again? I would like to take it off his hands.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

I just bought a 1982 BJ60 for a friend that was sitting for 2 years. Fired her up and drove her home. Do as suggested, change the oil, fuel filter and take 'er easy at first, replace stuff as it breaks (pardon the pun)

Congrats!

Just drove that BJ to work and home, runs great.

Rob - I am starting to think that 3B is just as strong as my 3FE, the 62 just has better gearing

3B is better than a 3FE hands down for reliability and minimal maintanance.... no tune ups....no sparkies or dizzzie

Sounds good. I think I am starting to get over confident. I hope it will be as easy as others have found it. When I get started, I'll get some pics up.

There is a very good chance that 3B will end up in my 62. I want to see pics of that RHD 62 with ambi doors you have on your sig line.

Andy22r - Best of luck with that BJ

You dont need to change the fuel filter, just check the air filter for a mouse nest. No need to change the old fuel either. Just change the batteries and start the truck and drive. Like someone said put it in 4wd low to free up the brakes and you will be fine.

A field is a bad place to store a truck though - bad for rusting things.

Diesel fuel is a sponge for moisture. It will suck the water right out of the air over time and temperature cycles.

Does a 62 have a sedimenter? If it does I'd drain it just to get an idea how bad the fuel is.

Sneak peak 62

No vents in the front fender I thought that was a diesel thing and I thought 62's are only gas? Nice full float axle too.

Thanks for the pic

Tony

JDMs dont have the fender vents its a 3F carbed engine no EFI

Thanks for the education, never new such a beast existed. Awesome find.

Would there be much potential for me to damage the engine if I didn't change the fuel and filter?

Good call on checking the air filter.

Probably not,but I wouldnt get in it and go for a long drive with out doing some basic maintenamce like oil and filter changes.
