All I've done so far is fit the rear brakes and assemble the new ebrake bell cranks , new boots and pins. Next will be running the new brake lines. Slow going now, too much extra work and no time to play

Hi
Good to see that you are pushing on with the project.
It is easy to get bogged down with life's day to day challenges and in my case customers wanting to take me away from my build.
Keep the photos coming .
I installed my console last week and now up to my neck in wire looms.
Merry Christmas

Working on the hood this week , the paint was actually super tough to get off. They used a heavy coat primer and the paint was like iron. It took about 3 hours of a twisted wire wheel on a 5" grinder to clean the paint off. I will hand sand it with 220 grit when I get back from work next week and send it to the shop for epoxy primer.
On another not I am working really hard to come up with the 8k for a stainless tub from Teseven . As of now it looks like I will be able to place the order by early summer, providing that I can keep up the 2nd job which is paying me really good money.
I'll get to the brake lines in the next couple of weeks and reseal the rear diff which developed a slow leak while I was at work. Cheers for now

P's. The louvers are a nightmare to sand. These alone will take me another 2 to 3 hours to clean up.

That bonnet is looking great. Keep up the good work.

Hi
Nice work on the sanding.
Brings back fond memories.
I used a bit of paint stripper around the vents. Yes they are a pain to sand.
Just looked up my notes , It took me 3 days to sand and prep the bonnet prior to etch priming.
Keep the photos coming .
Cheers

Went the opposite way, built the truck for wheeling, went through the mechanics and wheel the crap out of it then maybe rehabilate it this year... looking go tho..

Still trying to find some sheet metal, I am looking for a right rear ambulance door, right front passenger door and a headlight bezel.
Also do the members on here know if the ambulance doors off of a 1973 fj40 will fit on my 1983 BJ42? Thanks and I will be back at it soon.

You've seen that red set of doors on Nanaimo Craigslist eh? I've been eyeing them up but I can't justify it. Yes, they'll fit!

Vanisle you're right on the money with that one ha!
Alberta mac these are ambulance doors for $350, look to be in good shape but I only need the RH door so I will keep the other for trading stock. The tough one for me has been getting my hands on a windshield frame. I snoozed through a gem on ebay because I was being cheap. Now I regret it.

Run an add on UsedVic for the bezel, the guy I bought my 81 hardtop from had one kicking around... but I don't have his info anymore.

pre 79 ambulance doors have square lower corners.

So followed bikersmurfs advice and placed an add for used parts, we will see what that leads to.
On another note I spent a wheelbarrow full of money this week.
I purchased a full engine rebuild kit from 4wheel.com out of Alberta and so far I'm pretty happy with the kit. I need a good solid 3 days to strip the engine and clean it, then off to the machine shop. It should be done when I get back a week later from work. I also went on a limb and bought a passenger door bottom repair panel but the inner was so bad it's going back to 4 wheel.com .

And finally I ordered my full stainless tub including cowl from Teseven. Build time is 6 months, I transfer the funds on Monday. Super excited about this tub, I might be the first BJ42 in Canada to have one of these.

Mine will have a storage trunk built into the rear, I know it's not factory but it will come in handy. And as I will never be able to sell her for what I have into it plus labour, I can modify it as I want to have it.

You betcha sarge. I believe this might be the first one in North America. I tried to make a down payment today but my bank can't figure out the transaction so I have asked for more information from Fabien. I'm super pumped about this tub, I hope it's half as good as it looks.

Well its a done deal, first half of the tub is paid for. It was a hard pill to swallow but I am looking at the end goal. I will let you all know how this deal proceeds. I have a good feeling about this so I was up for the gamble.
One another note I dug into my transmission and transfer case. I found one needle bearing that was in pieces with no damage to the shaft which is weird and I found out that when my dad had the transfer case replaced many years ago that the mechanic put two of the shaft shims on one side of the gear so the other side if the shaft had been rubbing on the housing a little bit. I actually can't believe it heald together all these years without damage. The gears and synchros look amazing so I will replace some of the bearings that's look suspect and reseal the entire assembly with new gaskets and seals. I made a Toyota purchase today from transmission dust boots and shims which came to $350.00. I'm not getting an inch out of the boys at Nanaimo Toyota, doesn't matter because I will see this through to the end now.
