Hi all,

I recently got my hands on the June 1982 Overlander magazine (AU and NZ) featuring a 6 page review of the Toyota BJ42 LX (it's for the 4-speed). I know we all like the old school pics and thought I'd share with fellow mudders.

Enjoy!

Baas, that was a great read. I would love to get a scanned copy of the article to share with some friends if you are able to scan it and email it too me.

Some quotes that leapt out for me:

"You can take friends to the flicks or out to dinner without wishing you'd bought a fairlane instead."

"The old "Warm Pull" which assumed dubious connotations and definitely gained something in the translation is no more."

"a vehicle which seats 5 adults in comfort"

"its only a matter of time before potential suicides discover the wrist cutting potential of that bashplate"

I always appreciate good Aussi humour.

But in criticism of the article: One would have expected the writer to be comparing this BJ42LX to a standard BJ42. However I suspect at that time the Overlander magazine must have owned a much earlier BJ40 (probably of around 1977 vintage) and that this was in fact the vehicle they were basing their comparison on..

I say this because my 1979 BJ40 already has many of the "improvements" they are claiming for this LX model .

eg:
"the engine mountings have been changed and are now far more solid"

"the rear axle breather is high mounted"

"it's nice to see bolt-on heat shields provided" (exhaust)

Thanx for posting Gary....

Just take it off your screen and store it as a pdf Ken.

I'm trying to insert the pdf (that I made from Gary's pics) here in this post but it seems ih8mud won't allow me to do it.

(I've never tried attaching a pdf file to a post on ih8mud before.)

Edit: Well look at that .... It seems to have worked...
