I see the interest in running a 40. But first let me say i would never drive them has a DD. Not a diesel, as mentionned it rattle alot, shake like a harley on 4 wheels.

Also they are expensive, unless you by one that has just been completely restored, that would cost you well over 20k if not more.

I personnaly have my cruiser since 2000, i never used it until 2006 when my familly was done and budget allowed. So it stay in the garage 6 years. And now, 2 years later, i'm broke.... ;-)

If you can get your hand on a good BJ, buy it, store it and get a civic for a DD. Once you are done with school and have a good job and no family in the short term then start wrenching on the cruiser or wait until the family is over, just like i did.

And do everything you can to drive one before you buy.

also, i've got another question...

as far as lift kits go, does anyone happen to know how the prices would compare to kits for Cherokees? I'm assuming they would be cheaper, bc of the leaf sprung front end and simpler steering... but someone correct me if im wrong

Probably twice the price, everything is alot more expensive. The best 3" lift rubicon express offer for a XJ is about 900$. a OME for the cruiser is 1700-1800$. approximate price.
