I see the interest in running a 40. But first let me say i would never drive them has a DD. Not a diesel, as mentionned it rattle alot, shake like a harley on 4 wheels.
Also they are expensive, unless you by one that has just been completely restored, that would cost you well over 20k if not more.
I personnaly have my cruiser since 2000, i never used it until 2006 when my familly was done and budget allowed. So it stay in the garage 6 years. And now, 2 years later, i'm broke....
If you can get your hand on a good BJ, buy it, store it and get a civic for a DD. Once you are done with school and have a good job and no family in the short term then start wrenching on the cruiser or wait until the family is over, just like i did.
And do everything you can to drive one before you buy.
