BJ40 Coolant leak from next to exhaust manifold - help......

Just spotted a coolant leak coming from above my crankshaft breather plate and next to the exhaust manifold. There are a row of holes and coolant is running out of one of them. Any ideas where it is coming from?
None of the others are showing anything. Checked the manual and it doesn't show the block as having holes there. Photo attached.

Its appears to be leaking from a welch plug.. thankfully an easy fix.

I carry a complete kit for my 2H.. thankfully the sizes are pretty standard the world over, if that is where the leak is coming from any competent mechanic should be able to assist:

Duncanrm - not sure if there was ever a Welch plug in there. Each exhaust manifold port has one adjacent to it. The FSM just shows a white patch.
Agree a plug might be a solution - going to pull the head and see if there is any tracking marks across the gasket. Also see where this is coming from a bit better. Something for boring day perhaps......

You may have an after market head on your engine, or Toyota may have upgraded it during production

I am having exactly the same issue with my 1980 BJ40 head. Coolant leaking from those 13mm holes....but they don't seem to be welsh plugs. How did you go about fixing this?

I ended-up using 13mm welsh plugs to block all four of those casting holes. That seems to have overcome the problem and looks nice too!

Hi Doug I know it was a while back but did you have to remove the engine to replace the welch plugs?

Old thread but I believe this is caused by leaking/rusty push rod tubes perhaps. Plugs would be a band aid of sorts
