hi. Running at toyota bj74. Im confused why during wet weather on tar roads my rear diff lock light on dash comes on. No 4wd engaged, it just turns on glows bright. Same rod and its dry and i drive no light comes on. When its wet i once felt like rear tires were slipping and two min later light came on. No idea why. Fuse or diff problem? ↲Also my coolant seems to be disappearing. No leak no overheating but every morning must top up? Any ideas. Will appreciate.

As for the diff light...any chance it's just a shortage caused by the wet conditions.
I Would say clean the contacts at the diff and shield them as much as possible (Tectyle/vaselin).

Disappearing coolant... several options, but you didn't mention you find any coolant under the rig when it has been stationary, therefore my guess is a leaking headgasket.
Can you smell any coolant in the exhaust gasses with the engine running?
Another thing you can do is get the engine warmed up and with running engine (be carefull!!!) inspect the connections and hoses for leaks. Do not forget to inspect the radiator.

hi. I have a feeling its a short cos the diff lock light glows and fades. I hope its a short and nothin serious. Headgasket will check. No puddle under car and no leaks. Cheers

Sensor wires at the diff lock are worn through and the water is creating an electrolyte that allows enough current to light the idiot light.

Check your overflow bottle at temperature. If the coolant looks like coolant cappiccino, you got a head leak.

Cheers,

John

hi..
yup found out the diff lock switch was shorted and misbehaving. replaced it.
as for the coolant level i suspect its the coolant container (which is pretty old) is losing liquid through the seals.
Smoke is very light blue on start up then fades away.
radiator cap is clean, no cappucino..

will monitor it though..

now i have a new friggin issue.. brakes..
