can i plug off the hose that comes out of the crank case cover, over the valve cover, and into my intake manifold? i don't have any smog stuff on this engine......

Nope, that is the Positive Crankcase Ventilator and you do not want to plug it. In the old days they just vented but now those gasses are reburned. Just make sure the check valve is clean and works properly.

thanks for the quick replys, time to finish plumbing and flash it up! ( been off the road for a month)
When you have the valve out, shake it to see that the ball moves freely and if you have time, soak it in some parts cleaner or lacquer thinner to clean it.
