I installed this suspension roughly 8 weeks ago and may have 1500 miles on it. (I have done no off-roading since). I have "speed humps" in my neighborhood and have flexed the suspension once or twice (mildly) just for fun.

It appears the top part has just slid up the shaft of the shock! Has anyone ever seen this? Is this part supposed to be removable (serviceable) or is it supposed to be sealed? What do I do with this? Seal it back down? Try to replace it under warranty?

@bjowett - I'd love to get your thoughts as I imagine you are likely the most familiar with the internals of a Bilstein shock.

Thank you!
{Side note: Since installation I've had a clunking sound on this same side when going over speed humps with both front wheels at the same time ONLY. It does not make the sound if I hit just the left side or the right side. But it does feel like a rebound clunk... Not sure if its related or just a coincidence}

Ouch! That’s doesn’t look good.

Look at the top of your other shock/strut, is there a large C-clip on top that is missing from the damaged side? Do you have the schematic for these?

It looks as though the secondary wiper cap has popped off. It is press fit into the shock body... You can contactact Bilstein... I'm sure they would like to know about it.
Thank you Brian - I'll reach out to Bilstein. It isn't leaking or anything.....
I have to be honest - I'm not looking forward to removing and replacing them as that stabilizer bar link was a huge PITA to get back into place! :censor:

Thanks - I didn't notice a c clip on the other side - and apparently its a press fit.....maybe someone didn't press hard enough? ;)

This happened to my 6112 on my 4Runner and the thread that holds the top hat stripped and the nut flew off while wheeling. Everything was torqued to spec. I live in San Diego and called the Poway Bilstein about it and they told me that my 4th gen 4Runner 6112 shocks are not covered by warrantee because the 4Runner was an xreas suspension. Screw them I threw them away and bought icons. My recommendation is don’t upgrade your 200 with Bilstein.

damn, not good business on Bilsteins part! that is called shooting yourself in the foot....

Yikes.

That is BS about the XREAS anyways. Once you pulled the old XREAS struts and shocks, the truck is no different than a non-XREAS 4Runner.
