Found these while hunting for shocks the other day. I didn't think Bilstein made a bolt-in 5100 for 80s, but here it is. Has anyone run them yet?

http://www.amazon.com/Bilstein-24-238885-Shock-Absorber/dp/B0130WCDEU

Collapsed Length (MM): 379.5, Extended Length (IN): 24.59.

The lengths seem perfect, but I haven't been able to find the valving. My 80 is chopped and bobbed on stock springs. I'm hoping to find something valved pretty soft (my other option is the 7100s that I can revalve at home).

So who's used them??? Or who knows the valving?

Bringing this one back to life. Need a stopgap to save up for the Icon Stage 2. I'm on the East coast, no real rock crawling, mainly highway and playing around on the farm.

I have them on the rear of my chopped 80. Still too stiff for my liking but they do make it handle like a racecar! I haven't put them on my full bodied 80.

I just pulled a set of yellow bilsteins off my rig when i put the lift on. The bilsteins ride like a brick $hithouse, you feel every imperfection in the road as its transferred through the entire rig. I would find myself gritting my teeth going over big bumps it was so jarring, they really took away the quiet comfortable ride I thought these were known for. The ride is much better now with the full kit from Trail Tailor.

I say keep your blown out stockers until its time to upgrade, i hate buying parts twice.

I actually just found the Icon 2.0 shocks online for about $600. I think I'll grab those as they're rebuildable and designed for the 80. Thanks for the replies and advice.

Are you talking about the yellow shocks or the silver shocks? I always thought everyone said the silver 5100s were too soft....

Mine were the yellow with blue rubber shields. The silvers i ran on my tacoma were a lot more compliant.

Yea. Yellow ones are stiffer than the 5100s I've been told. No idea. I know the 5100s work better than the L shocks on the rear of my chopped 80.

If your getting the ones for a 4-6” lift I hope the place you’re ordering from has them in stock. I was gonna buy a set from Metal Tech but they told me they would have to be ordered and then built, 5-7 week wait. If you find a place that has them in stock let me know!

I’m buying the 0-3” shocks from Metal Tech. I may be in the same boat though. Icon doesn’t sell them on their website, so they may all be custom orders now. I figure, I’ve gone three years on my current shocks, another couple of months won’t kill me.

I’ve used the bolt on 5100’s with 850j/863 combo on multiple trucks. They ride great and have had zero complaints from my customers.

If you want a quality shock, rebuildable, affordable, correct lengths and typically in stock... FOX has made this really easy for you guys.... just sayin.

Damn, I wish I'd read this before I fought to get my 4600s shipped. I'm about to install them this weekend to replace some rusted out stockers that won't pass inspection. I guess we'll see how stiff they feel in my new-to-me '96.

I'm running a set of (yellow) Bilsteins maybe 10 years old on one of my 80's,
no lift, stockish tires, rides fine. Lane changes and handling in general is more direct compared to stock shocks.

yeah, i have been using the yellow ones as well paired with iron man springs for a few years now and have worked well but its time for new shocks and was considering the 5100's.

have any other folks used these? opinions?

I had them on the chopped 80 and swapped them for a blistering with lighter valving. I’m now running them in the rear of my Gx470 and they are great.

cool. my truck isn't heavy. arb front bumper, stock rear bumper, but have drawers in the back and was worried about the 5100's being to soft.
