Since there are more 80 series trucks with Luke's bumpers, I thought I'd ask here instead of in the 100 series forum. Anyone have pics of what they have done to fit a bike rack of some sort on the swing arms? I know Luke sells one that mounts the bike vertically, but I'm looking for some ideas on how to mount the bike horizontally. My current Thule hitch rack is a pain in the butt to use with the swing-arms.

Here's a pic of my bumper project.

I have the yakima that bolts to the spare tire. It worked great on my wife's Liberty, but that tire was centered on the car. I'm not sure how it would work with a non-centered spare. Might be clipping trees or Priuses with the bike tires.

Edit - looked at the Yakima site - the new Sparetime model can be mounted offset to help with this.

When I bought my bumper I ordered both the ladder and the bike rack holder, the idea being I could attach the bike rack holder to the jerry can crossbar on the ladder. However, while building it, I decided that I didn't want another bike rack object floating around in my garage and that I throw a bike on their often enough that I should just attach it directly to the ladder.

The attached picture shows the result. The bikes are a little low for dropping off any ledges, but that isn't worrying me. They aren't horizontal, but it's worked well the couple times I've used it since building it.

Just wanted to update this thread with what I came up with. I used a reciever tube on my tire carrier to accept a modified Thule rack. Came out pretty good.
