My daughter is getting ready to put the FJ55 on the road. Currently she has the 4.11 gearing. That, with the 3B is going to give it a low highway speed. The long range plan is swapping in 3.7's but in the meantime a set of new tires are needed to pass safety and get licenced. How large can she go without rubbing on stock rims? 33x9.5 or less? She's hoping for a lift once college is done but that's a few years down the road. At least with tires she gets a poor mans overdrive.

33s might push it...here's a 35 on stock saggy springs and it is a c hair from touching...so, i'm betting a 33 may rub with a good bump

Those look wider than 9.5 though. Would it rub with the 33x9.5 in the wheel wells or would it rub on the wheel opening with 10.5 or wider? She doesn't have power steering so narrow is nicer for "armstrong" steering.

i ran 33-9.5 on mine for a few years, no lift and a little saggy to boot. it fit well and i only remember the very occasional light rub. 33-10.5 would probly be fine as well. i have the 10.5 for my mostly stock pig right now but its not finished so i havent driven it around yet.

We'll look for 33x9.5 then.

32-10.5 -muds on 9'' wheels with stock 1971 springs.Works fine with no rub.

they are 12.5s but width isn't the problem as much as the diameter...the front is almost touching the inner fenderwell. (actually, it is touching a piece of goo that's under there)

I ran a set of 33x12.50's on my lst pig for a brief period of time before lifting it. They rubbed allot. But if I put the stock tires back on that were basically 33x9'ish they would not rub but they looked extremely odd.. those were on the 16 split's. I think you might be happier with 31's or maybe 32's till you get a lift. unless you wanna go cookie cutters.

I run 33/12.50's on white spoke steelies. I also have a shackle lift and a helper leaf in the rear pack. I really don't get that much rubbing for the wheeling I do in the pig. One thing I did do was cut the lower backward slanting front lip off the front fenders. These lips tend to catch onto tires when doing tight turns etc.

But 33/12.50's is a chore with manual steering. Swapping to Toyota mintruck steering using Lance's bracket really helped...

I have 33" tsl's with 2.75BS on a stock pig, but I also have a 1" body lift. The outer most lugs have been sliced a little, but oh well. I also had to cut off that lip on the inner front fender after destroying it . My set up would probably be cool with a smaller 33" like a bfg.

I have some fairly well worn 33 x 12.50s on 12 M/T wheels on my pig rig. No rubbing, but have not done much offroading yet. I do have spacers (1 1/2) on the front, I dont have spring/tire contact. It looks like mine might have a small lift or extra leafs, not sure.
