I'm sure this has been asked at least three times... but what is the largest size tire one can fit on a stock FJ80? I want to get new tires first then add a lift later on.

Sorry about that

Just checked FAQ.

35's

On a stock height 80??? I thought the 33" (285/75/16) was the biggest without lifting?

I would like to fit a set of Toyo Open Country A/T 295/75/16 (33.3") but I was told they are too big without a lift.

I would say 285s.

Our 80 had 285s on it when we bought it and it had no lift. But I think someone in the nor call group put 295 BFGs on there 80 when it was stock.

But do not do it unless you plan on getting a lift soon.

Don't lesson to the tire shop. Thoughs guys looked at me like I was nutts when I bought my 285s the guy said they where to big and I had a 2.5" lift. I told him to go out there and look what is on there 285s.

35s fit, but rub like mad. 285s, 295s, and 305s all fit stock.

What he said. For the 35's you have to lower the bumpstops to not rub. In my book this does not make it stock anymore.

I just went through this. I got the 305's MT/R's and no issues stock what-so-ever. If your going to remain stock stick with the 285's, 295's, or 305's. All of these sizes still look fantanstic with the OME 2.5" lift.

Would work nice as a spare as well if your not going to do a rear tire carrier with your 33's.

I'd suggest to keep a spare the same size as the other four...

The 255/85/16 and 285/75/16 are usually the same diameter. The 255 is just narrower in width, which is why it was suggested for a spare. It would not hang down as low as the wider 285 tire in the stock spare location.

Bingo...Now the discussion of 5 tire versus 4 tire rotation will ensue or we can just leave it for a search.:grinpimp:

do you want to keep the fender flares.....?

OK I checked ALL the threads on this over the last hour...no mention of fender flares with the stock suspension. I want to put on 305/70/16's (~32.8" diameter and 12.2" width) on my '97 LX450 that HAS fender flares. I would also like to add 1" to 1.5" wheel spacers back and front. Will I have any "issues" with the flares or rubbing ?

Thanks in advance.

305 70 R16 should not rub ever, are you going to keep the factory wheels? I ran 315 75 R16 on the stock wheels with no lift and barley ever rubbed (only minimal rubbing offroad) alot of rubbing issues can vary as much or more with wheel width and offset as with tire size!

another variable is tire brand, I've seen two 35 inch tires that had atleast an inch difference in them!
