:frown: So driving home from a good weekend of wheeling there was a boom. A hole has materialized in the oil pan, and, well, it doesn't run. I think it was a rod that shot from my wonderful cruizer! So, now I pose the question, what to do? Needs to be pretty ecinomical, Im a college student, 350 v-8 or a diesel (where you at Steve, I would want veggie!) or just another 2f or yota diesel. What do you guys think? Im gonna get it looked at to find out just whats wrong with it first but my mind is a going now! Oh yeah I gotta fab a rear shock mount cause thats no longer on and a new j-pipe! Lets here some ideas!

Are you sure that it;s a rod? Have you taken the oil pan off yet?

GO DIESEL!!!!!!!

well, if you are on a tight budget then go with a used 2f cant beat that for ease of install as well as cost.

350 cost more and then its worth less to most people.

Diesel - cost are high and a good bit of change over for the swap. But also has a really really strong cool factor and you can run veggie! If you go this route I would stick with a yota diesel only. This may depend on where you are located as far as avail. of these engines, at least locally or somewhat locally.

There is tons of info on here about all 3 options. Along with tons of opinions. See what works best for you. Being a college student and knowing how much $ I had then and even now :) I would just go with a used 2f, and if yo uhave the $ have a experienced yota mechanic look it over b/f you install.

How much money do you have to work with?

I'd go with a 3FE or a 3B diesel. Please note the complete lack of bias. ;)

I probably have about 2-3 grand, my step bro is a mechanic, so I have that covered. I just need to find an engine that I can swap out. Umm, what would be the advantage of going to diesel verses sticking with gas? Would I see increase in gas mileage at all or what? Im going to keep searching, I just woke up from this all happening last night and its kinda ironic that I slept so darn well for my truck blowing up. Keep the advice rolling. Thanks for everything guys!

I would just swap in the 2f that steve is selling for like 300 bucks...we could have it in, in a weekend. The rest of the money use for a lift and a new exhaust since you kinda well....kaputted yours this weekend. And a note book to remember to check your oil level at least once every 2 weeks :D

Any help ya need just let me know brotha...

the beenefits of diesel are primarily fuel economy and reliability. No doubt a 2F is pretty reliable, but the diesels commonly used for swaps (and there are many) average low to mid 20's miles per gallon. AND you can run biodiesel....diesels will be pricey (a cummins 4bt is a slightly cheaper option). The cheapest/easiest would be a used 2F.

I suggest you buy Steve's 2f if he still has it. Cheapest route there is for sure and is supposedly a solid motor with about 150k on it. Sorry to hear about yours. Good luck.

has anyone had any experience with the rebuilds from man-a-fre or cruiser dan in GA? Im thinking about going that route... Possibly. Do any of you other FL cruisers have Steve's phone number, I would like to call him and just discuss his motor. You can pm me with it if ya got it. Once again appreciate it.

One thing with Diesels..

Gas prices are soaring ($0.50 more agallon than gas in Vegas) that makes the Diesel swap just about even with a gasser...

Diesels are cool and all but are they worth it???

SOmething to think about.

Anthony...

His name is FLcruiser...PM him on here. I am sure he would help you out...

rebuild kits and rebuilt 2f's are expensive. I think they blow your budget. But goo luck and keep us posted.

So the final decision, I found a remanufactured engine from someone up north, I should have it in like 2 weeks. So this one will hopefully last me for a long time to come! I will make sure to keep it well fed with oil and stuff! Thanks for all the advice and stuff. I will take pics and post them as we do the swap. Im really actually kinda exciting, blessing in disguise. Keep cruizin'.
