In that case, you might want to at least try to get the old straps off and just replace them with a set of used ones. Check the classifieds here and just do one at a time so you don't have to drop the tank.
I just got out from under my truck and I think the least expensive and best way is to just replace the one strap with OEM part. The other strap looks like it is still in pretty good shape.
 
Just ordered the strap with my AAA discount $99 and change. That's an expensive strap!

Hope that gets you back on the road for a bit, but it would be a shame if that ends up being the reason that the truck has to go to LC heaven.

I'll bet you could have obtained a non-rusty version from one of the used guys mentioned earlier for about $25 shipped. But, at least you're solving the problem!
