This was the second time my buddy and I went to Big Bend. The first was a scouting trip during which we hit the 4-wheel drive required roads. Now we wanted a more up close and personal trip, hiking as many trails as we could during the 3 day visit. All in all, we did 7 hikes - day 1 (after a 9hr drive): Ernest Tenaja, Boquillas Canyon; day 2: The Window, Oak Springs & Hot Springs; Day 3: Lost Mine & Grapevine Hills. Temps ranged from 44 - 93 and winds were calm to 38mph. Main dishes included pork steaks with green beans; fajitas with rice, queso fresco, and grilled jalepenos; t-bone steaks, grilled potato slices and jalepenos. Deserts were apple dumplings; chocolate cake with melted chocolate chips; and apple cobbler. Breakfast was french toast, monkey bread, and omlets in a bag. Oh yes, coffee was either espresso blend (brazil, costa rica, indonesia robusta, peru, and ethiopia) or single origion ethiopia sidamo.

The trip to Big Bend is high on my list, but the 12 hour drive from So Cal has kept me away. Thanks for highlighting this area.
