I know this is not a groundbreaking topic, but...

After 3 or so years with Duratracs, I've recently switched to the BFG.

Here are my observations:

Quiet. The BFGs sound like... nothing. Quiet. Really quiet. Like a Camry. You knew you had an offroad tire with the Goodyears by the sound alone.

Braking. The BFGs feel a little squirrely under hard braking whereas the Goodyears were nothing short of amazing. (I realize the BFGs may improve in this regard as they "scrub in")

Will the ATs match the Goodyears in offroad performance? We'll see. But it will be hard to do. Same goes for snow. The Duratracs were extremely capable in snow.

But considering that 95% of my driving is on paved roadways, I'm happy with my choice so far.

Thanks. I’m starting to shop for new tires and maybe shocks. Lots to read on the forum!

I have also done new shocks recently... used OEM. Super easy on the fronts, challenging but do-able on the rears with a 22mm ratcheting flex-head wrench and a pipe strap to hold the shock bodies.

Several of my friends have Duratrac or KO2's. I have driven both and tested both on several tucks (4th & 5th gen 4Runner, Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, JK Wrangler, 100 Series).

Duratrac's are far superior in deep snow and mud, with the disadvantage of being considerable louder on pavement.

I went with KO2's because they come in 295's and I dont like the sidewall look of the Goodyears. Next set of tires will definitely be a set of mud terrains again. I simply dont use the LX enough that I require a/t.

squirrelly on braking. I would increase the air pressure on the front.

I had Duratracs last and now have KO2s. I didn't have the Duratracs for too much of their life and they were fairly worn by the time they got to me, but didn't have as many miles on them as it looked like they had. There was SIGNIFICANT chop, despite rotations, and eventually at least one developed a really serious sidewall crack. They were good in the snow, and I assume that they would be superior in mud to the KO2s, due to their partial mud tire profile. They were also much louder on the road, and had really annoying vibration despite several different kinds of balancing. In short i am definitely happier with the KO2s. They have very good road manners, no problems off road, including in deep sand, and are good in snow. They really don't show their wear either, which, if you're paying a couple hundred dollars a tire, is a big deal too.

I have had a couple sets of each. For a daily driver and or poser the KO2 are better, they look nicer and are not as noisy. However, the Duratracs average a few pounds less per tire of the same size (check the company websites) and WILL yield slightly better MPG and acceleration as a result. Also as mentioned by others, in my experience the DTs are a lot better in the mud and snow. I currently have Hankook Dynapro MTs (295/75r16) which are great tires, but I will go back to DTs (285/75r16) for my next tires. They are a great all around tire and they weigh considerably less (54lb per tire vs 66lb per tire) than my current tires.

I couldn't keep the sidewalls on my Duratracs, they were light and soft and had good traction but I kept tearing sidewalls. After a couple of failures in short order and talking with others I quickly changed them out for Coopers and couldn't be happier with their durability and overall performance (ST Maxx). I'd BFG AT again for sure but I will not Duratrac ever again.

My Ko2's have started getting loud after 15k miles. Anything over 60 mph they sound more like a MT.

Is this the new AT with the much improved sidewall?

First off, GO GATORS! Second I have the KO2s and have been very impressed but have seen increased road noise as mileage added up. All and all it's still a win with the KO2's versus most other AT tires I've driven.

I've got KO2's on my hundred -love em, Had Dura Tracs on my 80- they have been very good and are now 50% worn and moved to my daughter's 80 for summer tires.

Just got the new KM3's on my 80. If it matters to you they look really good, they have a bit of road hum but not too bad.
I don't have more than 20 miles on them so far so I can't give much of a review other than to say I waited for them because of the positive reviews on the test tires.

The KM3'S. Sorry it's a pic of a lowly 80.

My km2’s at 15 psi are like tank tracks off Road
