Has anyone tried mounting the new BFG KO3 285/70/17 with Method MR701 17X8.5 in the spare tire space with a factory hitch?

No but it won’t fit. Not even close. Unless the K03 are super undersized which I doubt. Certain 265/70/17 don’t even fit or just barely.

That's a 32.8" diameter tire. 31.5-31.7" is about the limit of the spare tire well.

I confer, no it will not fit. I believe the largest you'll fit under there is a 32" maximum, not 32.2" or anything but literally 32"
Use this tire size calculator to figure out tire diameters and width: Tire Size Calculator - https://tiresize.com/calculator/
AND also check the manufacturers stated size. Some manufacturers tires may vary a wee bit even if it states the exact same size.
Also, most tire shops, if you bring in the spare for them to mount your suggested tire size, will mount it and let you try the fit for free, assuming you'll purchase a set of tires from them.
