How do you mount the bezel upside down? Wouldn't the headlights or something not sit right?

Yep. That's what happens.

On my bezel the lights are not affected by its orientation. Maybe on later models this changed. Maybe my bezel's been screwed up by previous abuse? But as far as I can observe from my rig, the bezel does not affect how the lights are suspended in their sockets.
- i could be wrong - so really there's no purpose for me posting this, but I guess I would like to see if my limited knowledge from observing my own rig is growing.
thanks,

Oh, the lights are OK, it's just that something doesn't sit right....;)

Bezel is symetrical. Lights fit fine. Everyone is happy. Except the bezel police, who will show up any minute and have their way with you.

FYI the Toyota emblem is only centered when the bezel is on with the thick part on the top. The stamped "LAND CRUISER" bezel didn't have the Toyota in the grill. The Toyota emblem was added when the stamped bezel was dropped in mid 1963.

If the bezel is mounted incorrectly (on pre-'79 FJ40s), access to the headlight alignment screws is obstructed.

Bezel orientation guide: "Fatten" up / "slim" down.

Violators will be prosecuted!!! :D :D

The wide part is supposed to hide the hood release also. At least on later models.

Cool, glad to see the reasoning behind the "bezel police" :)

Wow, glad I started this thread. We all learned something. I should start a What You Learerned (sp!)Today thread.

When I bought mine the bezel was mounted skinny up, made sense cause the winch blocks the bottom of the radiator so with the skinny side up it got more air. But I had to flip it so I could post pics here with out having to put on a flame suit.

exactly :)

problem can be cured by buying a fj25 or a 79+ fj40......

I wish I knew what you guys are talking about with the adjustment screws. I can't get a thick feeler gauge between the headlight and and the bezel, no matter what way, on my trucks, let alone access those screws.

Agreed Dave. There's no way I can adjust my headlights with the bezel on. Can anybody elaborate?

I think the 79 and later bezel has notches for adjusting the head lights but I not sure you mount that one upside down. I have some of the older bezels store away besides the ones on vehicles and never seen a way to adjust the head lights with the bezel on.

We know that, HawkDriver. It's those couplea guys who claim you can get to the screws without removing the bezels on the pre 79 trucks who are goofy. :hillbilly

Okay, I'll plead goofy to this one. :whoops: (I was thinking about my previous '80 FJ40 I had that headlight adjustment access.) Just checked my '78 and you're right . . . . there's no way to get to those screws with the bezel on.

(I guess I better stick to the bezel-less breeds.)
