Hi All:

I've been interested in one of these "windjammer" type curtains to use in conjunction with a bikini top during inclement weather.

TPI 4X4 sells one for the 40 Series, but a friend with one says that it measures 55 inches wide; the vertical bars on my roll cage are 53 inches apart. Here is a link to the TPI "duster" (scroll down the page to the bottom):

Since J**p products seem to be "a dime a dozen" I decided to see what was available here. A buddy with a "Wrangler" (YJ, I believe) windjammer let me borrow it. It was too narrow for the roll cage in my FJ40.

In search for more info, I contacted customer service at BesTop. Here is what they told me:

Quote: The CJ-7/YJ is 45 15/16" wide by 45 1/8" high. The TJ (97-02) is 46 1/8" wide by 42 3/4" high. The TJ (03-06) and Unlimited is 46" wide by 41 1/4" high. I do not have the exact measurments for the JK, I was only told that it is 2" wider than the 97-02 TJ.

Thus I ordered a BesTop Wrangler JK 2 door windjammer from Quadratec; total cost including shipping was $98.

In the next posts I show some photos of this Wrangler windjammer on my FJ40.

Hi All:

Here is the BesTop JK Wrangler installed in a FJ40 with a non-factory roll cage.

Yes, that is a weird opening at the bottom. All I can think of is that this opening is to clear a center console??

Alan

This is great info. I used to have a windjammer on my Heep and loved it when the weather was a little off. After I got smart and sold the Heep and bought a Land Cruiser I have been looking for such a thing. I did try the windjammer that I had laying around and as you said it was about 2" too short. I have looked at the one TPI sells, but I don't like it being attached to the bikini. Looks like I will once again have to visit the Heep web sites.

Hi All:

Here is a couple pics of this BesTop JK Wrangler windjammer with an old BesTop bikini top.

????
It straps to the rollbar exactly like the one Alan is showing.

Hi All:

Ha! I guess you are right! I can just see Josie wiggling through there!

Dog door. :D

Looks great Alan! I appreciate the info, as we discussed, I almost pulled the trigger on one these. So the windjammer didn't come with an insert for the console area? I've seen some where it has a "zipper" style insert for this. Maybe its for the more generic models.

Thanks for doing the research on this, Alan, time to order up !! Looks great !!

Get a top from SOR. They incorporate the bikini in one piece. It doesn't matter how wide your bars are, as it doesn't attach to them.

thanks for checking on that. i went through the yj thing a about six years ago and finally splurged on the tpi curtain. i like it better than the spector setup since you can still use your bikini without the curtain.

I have the TPI duster and it works great. I changed one thing about it, though. I didn't like the buckles for strapping it to the rollbar, so I had them changed out to velcro by a local boat canvas place. The velcro works mo better.

It's really nice not having to wipe rain off the inside of the windshield during a storm. :D

times2 also, when you have an transfer case oil leak ;)

Were you getting oil from under the truck coming back up to the windshield, Ige? That would suck.

yep. one year travelling to cruise moab. output seal blew on the way out there. that crapdoesn't just wipe off the windshield like rainwater:frown:
