I picked up a pair of Bilstein 7100s for my 40. 2 POs ago spray painted them black and I want to remove the paint and go back to the original finish (nickel w/ clear powder coat). What is the best way to remove the black spray paint without screwing up the nickel/clear powder coat finish?
Thanks,
Brian

buy two new ones....

Since these were basically free (traded some rancho 9000 that were too short for my rig) new ones are not an option. Just looking for the best way to remove the spray paint that is chipping and flaking off.

Start with a Scotch-Brite pad and some Vaseline. Often, that will buff out overspray.

Thanks

Brake fluid takes paint of anything:lol:

Really though I'd start with plain old unleaded gas before I went to an abrasive like scotch pads. It's shouldn't touch the clear coat but rattle can paint will usually come right off.

Thanks.

I'd stick with a solvent before I'd approach anything with a scotchbrite that has a nickel coating on it. The scotchbrites will scratch the nickel or at least dull the finish. If the Black was rattle canned on you can take it off with just plain lacquer thinner from home depot or Lowes. 3M adhesive remover solvent also works quite well on a rag, as does acetone.

Good luck!
