I am in the market for a 2005 Land Cruiser (third one) I cannot seem to get the dealers to deal as I have in the past. I want it loaded Black, DVD, Towing package, Navigation etc, etc. They want to sell me one that they have on lot, and best deal so far is 1000 over. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Peter

I may have placed this in wrong forum, sorry!

I might try a Car Max or other buying service that can check hundereds of dealerships for you.

if it's a true $1K over true cost, that's not bad for this type of vehicle...
they should be able to trade trucks with another dealer pretty easily too.
But yes, try some other places. Can always jump in a plane if that' s gonna give you the options and colors you want and save much $$...

$1000 over is a steal for that type of vehicle. the dealers inventory is probably low right now since the end of the year businesses were buying up the large SUVs that qualified for the huge tax break. i think $1000 over is more than fair.

option recommendations?

OK, so 1000.00 over is pretty good. Any recommendations re options to get, or not get? They have one that does not have DVD player, but say they can install one. Is a dealer installed DVD player as good as factory?

One more question. The navigation system on my 2004 required me to pull over to change destiantion, etc. Is there a mod that will allow you to change destination, or manipulate the navigation system while driving? The passenger, of course.

There was for the AVIC-N1, in my supra, in fact it is pretty easy to disable the clutch switch that requires you to have clutch pressed down to start car. ( Is pain for thos with highly modified Supras)

the dealer installed dvd is probably the same as the factory one, i know it is for the LX 470, but be sure to ask first. if so, it will be as good, but will also be more expensive as is anything not installed at the factory or the port, it's always more at the dealer.

yeah buy it!

dude...........1K over is a great deal, what they heck to you expect, them to sell it for less then cost? they need to make a profit and 1K on a 50k truck is not too much to ask.

I can not understand how someone who can pay 50K+ for a cruiser won't pay a 1K profit.........maybe you work for free?

but make sure it's true invoice, not padded

My local Carmax in Maryland (Laurel Toyota) sells new Toyota vehicles. They currently have one 2005 Land Cruiser in stock. Here are the details:

Stock Number: 2563174
Exterior Color: Thunder Cloud
Interior Color: Stone
No Haggle Price: $61,168
Destination Charges, Dealer Prep: $0
MSRP: $64,174
Factory Invoice: $56,576
Savings From MSRP: $3,006

Good luck with your search.

In my opinion, the best way to purchase a "new" Toyota is as follows:

1. Go to Toyota's website and locate the local dealers link
2. Email blast 20+ dealers with your quick quote request for the Land Cruiser (dealers with an established Internet Sales Dept will reply within an hour)
3. Wait for 2 or 3 days for quick quote replies.
4. Create an Excel spreadsheet with the list of the quotes and dealer name.
5. Start contacting the dealers via email or phone and begin to negotiate the price saying that this other dealer offered this price...can you beat it?

Good Luck

Also, www.edmunds.com Forums is a good resource for prices paid on new vehicles.

Actually, I have never paid more than $500.00 over dealer invoice, and usually at dealer invoice, or slightly below. Dealer profit has very little to do with profit from the sale of one car. I have several friends that own dealerships (Ford, and Chevy). The real profit comes from dealer incentives based on total number of cars sold, etc.
But, then you know this right? Dude?

Thanks, This is how I arrived at the $1000.00 over. From what I can tell, it is a pretty good price for this time of year. Six month from now, it would probaly be easy to get it down to 250 to 500 over.

Thanks!

I'm not sure the dealer invoice means anything at at with all the factory-to-dealer incentives, rebates, holdbacks and credits ect...

You could try this to get the real wholesale price. - Consumer Reports New Car Price Service

But if you shopped 20+ dealers and haggled I doubt you are going to get any better. I wouldn't pay 55k+ unless the vehicle was exactly what I wanted in every detail. But I won't be getting a 2005 until at least 2012.

from what I know there are NO holdbacks, incentives, rebates or similar on a new Land Cruiser, never has been.

this is not a POS American car we are talking about.........where they have to pay you to take a car.

and yeah DUDE.......I know what I am talking about! Glad you have freind that own car lots........whoop-de-do
