I'm cheap, buy them from Sierra Trading Post when they show up.

there's not any incentives or rebates on the L/C right now, but every manufacturer now has a holdback - the domestics started them way back when, honda was the last to get into the holdback game in 1995. even taking HB into consideration $1000 over on a L/C is a hell of a deal.

I did the whole Consumer Reports thing, then called/visited every dealer in my area. Once I got prices, I pitted the dealers against each other. Got the usual "inventory" story, but finally got what I wanted, no running boards, goofy rear spoiler or roof racks. And at the price I felt comfortable paying. Of course that was 3 years ago.

Have you checked the prices on www.carsdirect.com? Here's a quote for a 2005 LC (w/no options) from them -- $51,279
Priceline used to have an auto purchasing program, but I don't think they have one anymore. I traveled with a buddy of mine to pick his Honda Odyssey. This was a couple years ago -- he wasn't able to get one without a huge dealer markup. Going through Priceline he saved over $6k from the best local price. He had to drive to Fresno (from Sacramento), which is about 4 hours away. The purchase process was simple since the price was already agreed upon. I think carsdirect works the same way.

The method I typically use for a new car is that I go into the first dealership. Hand the sales manager my business card with my phone number, the price I want to pay, and options desired. I tell him/her that I'm on my way to the next dealership to hand them the next card... If you have several dealerships in your area, this works great. I've never had to go further than the 2nd dealership before getting what I've asked for.

No need to hang around and play pricing games with this method.
