I was born on the wrong side of the tracks. I would love roll down Crenshaw on three wheels in a 64 Impala, checkin' my 6 every 2 minutes and only making right turns so that I don't get bum rushed.

But yeah...You won't need aluminum wheel displacers of the 1.25" variety if you choose to outfit your stock Land Cruiser UZJ100 wheels with 285 millimeter tires. I would elaborate but I have to get back to plotting fuel usage data on a macro-rich spreadsheet I am creating while watching Dancing with the Stars.

i have 285/75/16 Duratracs with NO lift - have zero issues with the fit and zero rubbing at full flex while turning in either direction (or at low psi). I have 23k miles on them and they are around 75% tread.

I am curious about bigger tires and loss of braking performance. What upgrades can you do over stock brakes to improve braking?

None. I saw no major loss in braking or acceleration. Toiwing was not affected terribly. Road noise is only issue.

DBA and a nice set of pads. With larger tires this may only bring you back to a stock braking distance depending on tire size and how much stuff you have bolted on. My brakes are 100% stock and they stock quick enough, I guess I'll retract that statement when I ram into the back of somebody. But for now they are fine.

I'm running stock 275/70/16 LTXs and have an extra set of stock 16" wheels I'm thinking about using as dedicated off road tires. I was thinking 295/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Would 285s be better for this? Or would 295s be fine since they'll only be for 4x4 trips and not daily driving?
