Alright so my time on this set of tires is coming up soon so i was wondering what size i should change to if any at all. For the most part ill be on the road but this winter I will be in the mountains a good bit so snow and ice capability is a must, im going with a nitto terra grappler as the tire. Will also be in the mud here at home whenever i can. How much bigger can i go without a great powerloss is also a concern.
I have nittos in 285-75-16. Mileage is about 11-12 city and 14-15 hwy. there wasn't a lot of power to start with... The tires are great, I love them. Handled so well during snowmaggedon in tx last year
I went from 275 70 16 Michelins to 305 Duratracs and didn't notice a huge loss. I've since gone down to 285 Duratracs, which are just about perfect size-wise - meaty tread, extra sidewall height, look great, no rubbing or steering issues like the 305s. Being at altitude, power loss is already VERY apparent due to the lack of oxygen. I didn't notice a whole lot more when I changed the tires. YMMV.
Great choice on the Nittos, too. Duratracs seriously rock in the snow and ice though.
I like how there is discussion of power loss with larger tires and first no discussion of what year LC the OP has? It makes a big difference if you are talking about 98-02 or 03-07.
Also would be really helpful if you post the current wheel size on the vehicle. Helps narrow the tire choices, not all sizes are available in both 16" and 18" wheel sizes common on the LC's depending on year.

Correct. If anyone says otherwise, they would be mistaken. Generally speaking, 285/75-16s are the best size for all situations. Anything larger or smaller is incorrect.
