Hey Charla,
the picture of your Cruiser in the mountains is one of the best I've seen.

Where did you get your 3-1 gears from? Aus or Rob M?

Cheers,
Steve Mullen

Thanks  I stole them out of Arthur Dent, Bruce's 70. Bruce got them from that weirdo Mullen 8)

I'm still bummed that they never did another run of those! :'(

sup ratpuke,

got another question for ya.

i may have asked you this before, i can't remember.

exactly what color orange is that? (i thought i remembered tremclad for some reason)

thanks, and btw, all of these cruisers just make me jealous

wow,

this page is messed up

That's a truly custom Canadian Tire paint job... Mixed it myself... anything but orange-red! Paint is better than Tremclad :) Eventually she'll get "real" paint colour matched to Cheeze Whiz perhaps.

I've said it before, and I'll just say it again, that is the coolest 40 pic I've seen yet.

I hope you don't mind, I swiped it for my background.

yeah, and the fact that it's a square bezel just adds to the picturesque quality

Don't mind whatsoever. More pics from that trip can be found at http://www.rmlca.ab.ca/runs/coastal2003/index.html

Here is a pic of Orange with the hood up:

Here's the promised 13B-T picture. She's still a work in progress - what rig isn't I suppose? Since she was a total rebuild we were able to make the adjustments needed in order to make the engine fit - for example, relocating the dual batteries to compartments in each of the rear wheel wells, moving the drive train forward a few inches, custom fitting a 60 series power steering box, etc. Eventually she'll get a proper air box, maybe even a front bumper ;) ......

i have a big question, where would i get a diesel engine for my fj40, can i still get them with out the wires, because well, theres no computer to hook it up to,, just the basic connections, please help

and a reminder to all

HZ/HD-T on left hand drive 40 series CANNOT WORK with OE type steering. Starter will clip the steering box.
(I discovered this in 1998/9)

and I would not even think of running a dual electrical system with 12 vs 24 volt. Be prepared to switch glow system, starter, charging system, a/c etc over.

pre 1990 have alt tied vacuum pumps which in this type of conversion I would abandon for an electric vacuum pump and regular off the shelf alternator.

Yep, but it will work well with a 60 series steering :D

Here is a tip: If the 1HZ/1HD-T comes from an 80 series, the alternator and the a/c compressor are already 12V no matter what market it is intended for. If it is a 1HZ from a 7x series, do like what Rick says, if the donor is a European or Japanese market vehicle. If the donor is a Mid East or Australian spec, you're set.

hey rick_d, if the 1hz clips the steering box, what did you go with? Could I go with a factory power steering set up in my 64' 40?

Looks like he went with a 13BT.

Direct injected turbo diesel 3.4 liter four cylinder.

Maybe.
