I used my neighbors impact wrench (electric) to remove the 27 mm parking brake drum nut on my FJ40. I like it! Any good recommendations on a good quality, but reasonably priced, corded impact wrench? Thanks.

I've always been a fan of DeWalt. I've got their 18V Li-ION 1/2" Impact....it's a beast, and has busted more free than my pneumatic impact....

I love my 3/4 drive milwaukee, $$$ but worth it

I have a 18v Snap On 1/2" impact and it is the best thing in my tool box. Take it to junkyards, camping, roadtrip, etc... Everyone who has used it has either bought one themselves or wanted mine. I also use it in the shop alot that way i can keep the batteries charged.

I have a corded dewalt that doesn't get used much anymore now that I have the snap on cordless one....if you're interested, drop me a pm with an offer and I can ship it up to you, Mr. Weatherman

I also looked at the DeWalt(I have just about every 18v cordless tool they have). But I cheaped out on my corded impact wrench when I bought the Kawasaki 1/2 inch 7.0 amp corded impact wrench. In hindsight, I wish I would have saved and bought the Dewalt DW292 (345ft/lb of torque vs. the Kawasaki's 220 Ft/lbs). But the Kawasaki has done everthing i have asked it to:
- Loosen lug nuts,
- Loosen nuts for bumper replacement
- Loosen bolts to install trailer hitch on my tacoma
- Drive 7" lag bolts for decking

My advice if you want a cheaper version to do 90% of your impact needs go for the Kawasaki. If you want the catch all for 100% of your impact needs, save up for the Dewalt. At just over half the price of the Dewalt(Recon $140), the Kawasaki ($80)was my choice.

Good luck with your search.

Justin

I have the Dewalt corded, am happy with it but have upgraded to a pnuematic impact now. My Dewalt had a wire on the rotor become desoldered or disconnected somehow, repaired under warranty. (I admit that it broke after it snapped off a stud on an old horse trailer that evidently had reverse threads....)

A friend has the Snapon 18v 1/2" cordless impac, goes through triggers rather frequently and the batteries are pricey when needing replacements. (the triggers get pricey as well)
