This randomly came up today, thought I'd pass it along.

I have been told they are technically LHD kit but Toyota lists the kit for RHD.
Anyone using this kit in a RHD vehicle?
Would love some feedback about how they work in RHD application, thanks.

I'm about to pull the trigger on new lights for my resto-mod. Was planning to go the CityRacer LED route until I saw the note on his site about them possibly not working with aftermarket harnesses. That's probably not an unsurmountable task, but I really like the looks of @ToyotaMatt 's kit. The flexibility to change out the LED's as they fail, or for other reasons is nice too.

Does anyone know of a side by side comparison between those two kits, showing light output?

I've only had them since September, but (so far) I've been very happy with these:

They were not a direct bolt on. Although they didn't require any changes to the wiring, I did have to do 10 minutes of work with the Dremel to get them to fit. I aimed the center of the "hot spot" 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" below center at 15' back from the wall. Up to now, I haven't had anyone flash their lights at me. I could probably aim them up a bit, but I don't feel the need to. They provide enough light that I feel comfortable (ie not out-driving the lights or the brakes) driving at 40-45 mph on the mountain roads and up to 65 mph on the highways with the low beams. With high beams, I'd feel comfortable driving as fast as I want to go, which is generally not much over 70 in my 40. They have a nice spill to either side that lights up the ditch and gives you confidence in corners. The light has a touch of blue tint, which I don't love, but it's not as blue as others I've seen and really only bothers me when I'm pulling into my driveway with the light on my white garage doors. I haven't experienced any flashing or pulsing up to now and I haven't experienced any moisture inside the lenses, both of which seem to be common complains with these sorts of lights.

Overall, I'm very happy. If they give out after 2 years I'll still be happy, based on the price. If they last 3 or more years, I'll be tickled pink.

edit: I got them for $72. I see that they are now listed at $90. They're probably worth $90, but wait for a sale if you can.
These are still working just as well as on day one. I haven't needed to adjust them. There has been no flashing or pulsing and no moisture inside the lenses. Consider me tickled pink.

I'll mention that I have the City Racer LED lamps and I love them...but I found out the hard way that they dont get hot enough to melt wet warm snow on the highway.
The headlights were caked over about a inch thick with close to zero light transmission.
It was a very short drive around twilight and it was very hard to see down the road. When I got home I found out why...

I had a similar experience with my city racer lights in the snow. Wiping them off plus some auxiliary lighting got me home. Since then I added couple lights that are protected from snowfall in case this uncommon situation arises again. The city racer lights work great otherwise.

I ordered up some of these last night. Seems like a fair price from Cruiser Outfitters. I'm excited to give it a try.
Keeping Halogens for heat to melt snow and a more classic look.

Koito H4 Upgrade Kit

I love the looks of the H4. I may go with this kit also.
Does anyone have a DIY link to do the upgrade to the H4? Looks like there is another harness involved and it isn't as simple as plug and play.

Usually Toyota's require an additional harness as Toyota switches lights by grounding instead of powering the lights... wiser people than me can correct me if that ain't correct.

Matt, I have heard great things about those. I scored a set of Rigid LED's and I don't like the look as much as the ones you got, I am hoping the light output will be good for animals and dark roads here in Montana. Looking forward to your review of them.

I almost smoked a few people crossing the road this week. Scared me pretty good. Dark out, dark wet roads, pedestrians dressed in black and just walking into the street assuming I'd see them and stop. I didn't see them at all until they were halfway through the intersection. I had all four corners locked up, tires barking. I'm sure they were pissed but thankfully it didn't turn out worse. Time for new lights and more of them. Let's face it, the 40 is hard to see out of at night even in ideal conditions. I'm going from stock halogens to an H4 upgrade and some Hella halogen fogs. We'll see where that gets me.

Koito H4 Upgrade Kit

That's a great kit at a great value. I installed it a couple of yrs ago. It definitely brightened thing up a lot. I shorten the harness a bit for a cleaner install.

That flat glass isn't doing us any favors at all. Any upgrade over the stock lights is going to help, but make sure you take the time to get them adjusted correctly. Especially since you're a little taller than stock. In my opinion, a properly aimed light is the equivalent upgrade to replacing a burned out bulb.

81110-60P70 Is super cheap right now. Worth it for the harness and lenses alone. Run halogen or LED. :)

Insanely cheap..... I can't believe how cheap they are now.... We just stocked up with about 20 kits for shop projects and rainy day fund.

They literally must cost Koito/Yazaki $.25 to make these kits if they are selling them at the current US dealer pricing.

No reason ever to pay more than $20 for this kit.

I have this kit, great value. Was told it’s for LHD but suitable for RHD? Does Toyota make a RHD version or is it a size fits all?

Wait a week Obi-Wan, it will be $.10. 😳
