I’m one of those victims that paid $50 a few years ago, still smiling in spite of getting hammered on the deal.
I think even if they were $50, we’d all still be gushing about what a great deal we got.

I feel like I committed a crime by getting two set for $40 though.

I just ordered 2 sets from Germain Toyota of Naples for grand total of $36.76

I got order confirmation email.

Curious if I get them.

Edit: Update: Picked them up yesterday. 01/11/24

Hard to believe these kits are less than 18 bucks each from a toyota dealer. Only took 2 days.

You got ripped off.

I was happy to pay $23.07 plus tax at my local dealership too. I could have bought for less but Shipping made it cost more.

I’m drunk at an airport while my flight gets continually cancelled. So, kidding.

Not sure if this is the right spot to ask this but I also put in new aftermarket headlights but they appear to be blinding every car that I pass. Is there a way to adjust the angle of a 40s headlights? I appreciate the help.

Assuming you have a 1977 40?
You need to take off the bezel. There are/should be two screws and a spring roughly equidistant around each headlight. Use the two screws to adjust the headlights.

Loosening the top one will lower your beam. Loosening the outer one will aim the beam in.

Get yourself a set of manuals, they are gold.

Also, I wasn’t sure about your year and how to adjust the headlights, so I googled it. 🤷🏽

Mine is a ‘77. I appreciate the help even if I was apparently blind to the answer. I had been searching around and didn’t see it.
Are you using a Haynes manual or is there one you recommend?

It helps when googling a question to put, at a minimum, “FJ40” in the query. When I searched, my query was “headlight adjustment 1977 fj40”.

The first result was a video of someone replacing the adjusters, so that was a great place to start.

Get what are called the FSM’s (factory service manuals). There is typically one for the chassis and one for the engine. I have a Haynes manual for mine as well and it can can be useful sometimes, but year specific FSM’s are a must.

Once you locate the adjustment screws, the actual setting of the height and angles is pretty straightforward. Find a blank wall on level ground that you can park your headlights 25’ from.
Some painters tape helps to make a level horizontal line. Make your adjustments from there.

There is a school district sports complex near my house with plenty of walls that I use, but maybe you’re lucky and your garage door would suffice.

Start a thread of your own to ask questions and track progress. I asked some pretty silly questions early on but folks here are generally very helpful.

Digital copies of the manuals are located in the Resources section here on Mud - it’s a tab at the top of the page on your desktop and in the menu you open from the top left on mobile.

Pro tip for searching Mud: just go to google, type in the vehicle, for example “FJ40” and then your query, like “FJ40 aiming headlights”. One of the top results is always the Mud forum. Below that search entry click “more from this site” so Google will list ONLY results from Mud. It works better for me most of the time than the search on Mud itself.

You can also enter into your Google search bar “site:www.ih8mud.com, FJ40 aiming headlights”. The “site:” function is the shortcut to the “more from this site” button.

I've been eyeballing the Rigid ones. They don't screw around on charging for those things.

Update. I put Rigid 7" round headlights in my 80 Series. I'm pretty happy with the output and the quality of light beam.

I might buy another set for the 40. Top of that rise in the road is probably a hair over a quarter mile away.
