ya Darrell, im setting something up with a mechanic up here to have my heads rebuilt in between work shifts since I need it done quick and correctly and not by my hand.

and fun side note, I was driving along downtown last night heard a pop and investigated it. turns out I blew my inner axle seal, we will see how long it takes to get that buttoned up again. off to the autoparts store

What makes you think the inner seal let go?! That shouldn't make any noise. And didn't you recently rebuild the knuckles?!

If the seal failed, then put the marlin HD inner seals in there. I have them in stock .....

I failed to seat the seal properly the first time on the DS, it slowly has seeped over time, I heard the pop and checked and now its got gear oil leaking out a lot faster from the felt seals. it wasn't a loud pop, just quiet and if my radio was on I woudnt have heard it. steers fine, no ratcheting clunking noises so my guess is IAS

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB :flipoff2: :p

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB ************ :p

get off my nuts :flipoff2:

it happens, the PS is good to go though and dry as a desert

well I pulled my doors off tonight because I have no AC, cant get R12 in CA and am too lazy to convert it to 134a right now. in addition I did a walk around of my truck, noticed that the wheel cylinders are both leakin in the rear now, my left front knuckle is leaking a lot of gear oil and I broke the stock shock mount in the passengers side frame rail.

so I have my work cut out for me and pictures are too come.

wheel cylinders are being fixed this week since I have brake fluid on my new tires
shock mounts are gonna be a weld job when I get around to it
knuckle is gonna be done...whenever I guess

ok back from fishing and the shop amongst other places.

we started with the #4 cylinder that has had oil leaking from the manifold and heres the numbers

#4=0 compression (test over)
#6=125psi

so ive been running on 7 cylinders for a while since the plugs were fouled. new engine in the future for me...

Diggin' the fender mounted mirror

thanks, i got a spare set of fenders and these are my crappy dented ones so i have no problems drilling holes in them and using nutserts in them. im gonna get around to the other side tonight and ill take some pictures. i broke the glass in that mirror today but a local glass shop is fixing it for 10 bucks

ok so fun stuff. 2 days ago my rear drum brake seized up and overheated warping the backing plate badly. so I called georg for a backing plate and right before that I opened up my differential and pulled the axle shafts revealing this

I think my wheel bearing blew up...and from the looks of it its been awhile since I took a 1/4 inch off my axle shaft. the axle shaft on the right is the long side axle and you can see the wear. compared to the short side axle

this is what the bearing ended up as once I removed it from the axle housing

this is what the bearing SHOULD look like

in the end the axle wore into the axle seal and did not touch the axle housing. and funny enough their was no damage to the outer part of the bearing which is still secured into the axle. the tilt of the axle wearing down into the axle seal caused my drum to rub the backing and then sieze up.

and now ive got an axle drum backing plate and other goodies coming from georg at a very fair price because that dude is awesome! should be buttoned back up by Friday if I get my parts by Thursday!

That bearing failure is crazy. Thanks for posting the pictures. Always interesting to see carnage when it's not yours :hillbilly:

Hope you have it back on the road soon :)

i'm sure that was making no noise whatsoever!

you should have the replacement parts tomorrow according to the guy at the ups hub.

ya it was pretty intense, there was no ride difference that I could tell either

dude you rock, thanks man. and the only noise was a slight soft metallic clunk every once in a while for a few months that sounded a lot like a u-joint or diff teeth engaging.

im pretty sure you test drove it with the crunched bearing when it was getting the PS and transmission stuff...;) :flipoff2:

btw when do you want to come fish. ill have to request an evening off on the weekends otherwise my work schedule it Wednesday and Thursdays off.

Wow, that thing is trashed! You replacing the axle shaft too?

yep funny enough, Georg sent the parts in the wail yesterday and lo and behold theres a box with an axle shaft stickin out of it on my doorstep today! :bounce: :bounce2:

ill be wrenching tonight and fiddlin with my truck and things so Ill just need to fill the diff and bleed the brakes in the morning.

Georg I swear to god you are awesome!

little less than an hour of work after watching some UFC rerun fights and im ready to bolt my drum backing plate up after i pull out whats left of my bearing. then its time to install a new bearing, oil seal, pop in the axle, button up my diff, bleed the brakes and fill with gear oil. then its :steer: time! im tired of :wrench:ing

been a busy few days since I got the axle rebuilt and good to go. 4wd engages so much better with an actual axle with wheel bearing.

meanwhile today was my weekend because of my work schedule. I drained and refilled the diff and got all the sparkels out from the exploded wheel bearing. I cleaned and ratchet strapped down my spare parts boxes. I vaccummed my interior. finally wired in my kill switch to the fuel pump with a hidden in plain sight switch.

and my favorite mod so far for less than 50 bucks was making a fishing rod holder for my fly fishing rods. it is a 9 foot long section of square PVC down spout pipe attached via brakets from my rear view mirror mount and to the rear most hatch dome light and it holds a fully rigged fishing rod out of sight minus the reels hanging down. eventually ill post pics of it.

went fishing yesterday caught my biggest smallmouth bass ever on a 6wt rod. 3lb 4oz while throwing dryflies for trout!
