Hi,

I am thinking of lifting my stock 95 FZJ a little and I have seen a few out there that have the Belton 1.5 in lift, the Terrain Tamer and the OME 2.5.

I only want 1.5 or 2 in lift, not more and I am considering a non winch bull bar and maybe a new rear bumper with a tire carrier. So if I go with the rear bumper I should get the HD in the rear and medium in the front? I am also pulling my travel trailer from time to time so maybe better with the HD?

Is Belton selling only springs and leafs and I have to buy OME shocks to go with it?
How about the Terrain Tamer? are they more/less expensive than the OME?

I will probably run some 235/85 with that setup

Any comments would be great!

A bias opinion, but non the less I would go with the OME medium lift. It will accomodate your lift size, bumper, and give you flexibility if you ever want to do a little more with it, plus the ride is excellent. In my opinion much better than stock. best of luck

Anybody with a Belton lift or Terrain Tamer here?

Comments welcome!

I had a belton 2" lift that actually gave me 2 1/2". The ride was phenominal. No matter how rough and washboarded the road (not trail), you could just fly. Washboarded corners at speed was smoooth. I wish I could have the same handling now, but as you go up for better performance in one area you lose in another. BTW my belton came with shocks.
Cheers,
Sean

If you get heavies in the back and mediums in the front you will have major stink-bug.

My previous BJ60 had the OME HD in the front because of the ARB and the winch and medium in the rear w/stock bumper. Was handling well but I figure the 80 is very different...

MTNRAT, where did you get your Belton? in BC?

why did you change it? What size tires were you running with that setup?

I got it from a shop in Calgary. They had to order it in. From what I know the springs are made by old man umu. They would be the lighter springs, not the heavy duty. I ran 285/75R16 (33s).
Cheers,
Sean

what other options are there for lifts in thr usa besides ome? where do you buy them?

Thanks Sean,
so they were the light duty? not the medium?

Do you remember the $$

Cheers

Cannot remember the $ , and I not sure whether they were light or medium duty.
Cheers,
Sean

Are you talking about BELTON leaves or coils with this post?

Thanks

coils

here is a pic with the belton springs on. They were a little light for the winch.

So Greg, what would be the ideal setup for a Belton suspension on an 80? I wnat a 1.5 to 2 in lift with medium duty unless I go with the rear bumper but it won't be for now anyways?

What kind of money for the entire kit? What are the diferences with OME?

coils cheers,sean

Good, thanks.

The Belton leaves are made at the Belton facility in Malyasia, same facility the new OME Dakars are apparently made.

I can not see Belton coils being farmed out either, however I will check with the Cdn importer/supplier (PDP) of the Belton suspension kits.

Last I heard, PDP was not going to supply BELTON kits for the 80 series, however I will double check this too.

Thanks for the info,

means now there is only Terrain Tamer and OME?

Does Terrain Tamer sell coils and kits for the 80?

Just go OME. Tried and proven hundreds of times.
Cheers,
Sean

Hey, that's ME!

Belton coils for the 80 are made by Belton. The shocks are the large bore foam cell design, which, depending on who you talk to, are a rough and harsh ride for your pavement princess, or "The ride was phenominal. No matter how rough and washboarded the road" as Seam kindly said. The shocks really are made for what Sean is doing.. the foam cell design eliminates oil foaming, which even gas charged shocks cannot fully accomplish. The result is 100% consistent ride with absolutely no fade over long hard road conditions. You're average pavement princess will not get as great of a ride due to the stiff valving in the shocks. Belton won't sell gas charged shocks for the 80 series or any coil sprung kit due to rapid failures of gas shocks compared to foam cells. Yet, the reality is that most people here in N.A. drive on pavement 99% of the time, and if the ride isn't 'just so', we hear complaints.

So, for a multitude of reasons... not many modified 80 series in our primary market in Canada, most use being pavement, and the close price competition from OME (Belton is definately cheaper than OME in the coils but the faom cell shocks are much more $$ than OME's gas charged offering, the net being that the Belton kit is only a few $$ cheaper than OME overall) , no historic availability of caster correction bushings from Belton... we've not sold very many 80 series kits, and stopped maintaining inventory due to slugish sales.

However... Things are changing in the Belton 80 series offering!!!

Belton is now offering coil kits with lifts of up to 6". They are offering caster correction bushings. And get this... they now manufacture adjustable length pan hard bars for front and rear 80 series applications. Unlike the Slee offering, where they modify a factory pan-hard bar with an adjustable end and charge you a core, these are brand new bars made of solid stock. And to top it all off... we think we can import these and retail them for a few pennies less than Slee kit.

So, This information is all very new, we just learned of these new product offerings ourselves about a month ago and have yet to order any inventory for this.

So I ask you this... Is there an interest in 6" coil lift which include caster correction bushings and pan hard bars, and shocks, of course. And of course, like everything we do at PDP, the cost will be a bit better than what you can get from OME.

Oh, and for the record.... The Belton Kit Sean has is rated at 2.5" lift, was a 'Medium' weight spring, and the shop he purchased it from was called Modern Motors.

Great, but I am interested in a kit that would give me 1.5 to 2 in of lift for my 80.
Could you price it for me, it is bad not to have the caster bushings?, I have heard people with OME not using them.

You can PM me if you prefer.

Thanks
