Hello All,

Kinda' consolidating here.

Vehicle: 2011LC, 147k miles.
Symptom: Chirping sound coming from passenger side, front of engine.
- Also heard it called - whine, screech (minor), 'bearing failing noise'

After doing the IH8MUD searches, it's pretty obvious by sound and miles, the belt and / or the Tensioner is the cause.

And, again, all suggest replacing this stuff - circled # in Red:
V Belt parts.webp

- (1) Belt - $80
- (2) V Belt Tensioner - $65
- (3) Idle Pulley (NOT part of the tensioner) - $65
- (4) Water pump - $113 (including gasket)

Just this stuff is about $320 (less shipping and tax).

Couple things:
- Tensioner 'pulley' isn't sold separately - that I can find.
- Is there a reason to replace the (3) Idle Pulley if it's not chirping?

At 147k miles, the Water Pump is a 'just cause I'm elbow deep' thingy. Makes sense.

All that sound about right?

Thanks,
Patrick

I'm about do all of these as well. My 570 has a major belt squeel. So far i have the belt and tensioner. Just need to get the water pump and idle pulley.

Idler only because you are in there.

Other important part to consider, since our fan doesn't run on the water pump shaft.. the fan support bearing & bracket 16380-38010, and possibly fan clutch 16210-38071. The cost goes up substantially with these parts.

I have a very minor chirp on cold start in some conditions even with a pretty new belt and water pump. I did check how smooth the idler and tensioner pulleys turned when I installed the belt.. very, VERY smooth, with no wobble. Personally I doubt they are close to being bad but I'll just do the whole system at once and not worry about it for another 150k.

Did you do the radiator already? If not, def do that at the same time

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say, the radiator did me!

$790 to replace. Super sucky considering it's a KNOWN issue!

I went ahead, and listed it on this thread, and complained to Toyota and got a formal issue number so people could complain.

...i might not be over it yet.... (calm down, more wine....)

Anyway, yes, otherwise, GREAT ADVICE - listen to that guy.

Looks like Rock Auto offers the water pump, fan bracket assembly, and fan clutch in the Aisin brand. See any reason to not go with this alternative?

If the price difference was substantial enough I’d definitely consider it. Aisin does make parts for toyota.. and while they technically might not be the exact same part (when there is no obligation to meet the exact production design they often won’t, unless it’s more expensive to make a different part, which is sometimes the case) I generally trust their quality.

The discount sites narrow that price gap substantially compared to the counter.. though for me it helps to live down the road from one of them so I can go pick anything up and avoid shipping costs.

With this truck I decided to pony up for OEM to be confident I won’t have to mess with it for another 100k. But that won’t always be the case.

I bought all that stuff a couple days ago from Rock Auto and UPS just dropped it off today. I bought the fan mount bracket from a Lexus dealer because it was in stock. I just need red coolant ....and beer.

I'm about to undertake this job - 176k got the squeakies (posted in this thread: Intermittent squeal - idler pulley? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/intermittent-squeal-idler-pulley.1192321/ )

Waterpump and belt were done at 140k, though I've no idea what brand of parts went on, probably Aisin as it was done at my Aunt's home town main street service station (an Exxon, no less). I think I'll leave the water pump, and use the 36k belt as a trail spare.

Which leaves Fan Bracket assy and Fan Clutch as the only 'questions'. Curious to know lifespans of fan clutch here, AND - does anyone have the shop manual scans for this job they could share? Or a good R&R thread? Poked around YouTube for a while and didn't see a good (or any) video for 200 series US based gassers. Those Aussie's got diesels covered though, highly entertaining.

This is a good portion of it: Alternator or tensioner... how can you tell? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/alternator-or-tensioner-how-can-you-tell.1200851/post-13008266
and Fan support bracket & bearing - with high mileage check yours - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fan-support-bracket-bearing-with-high-mileage-check-yours.1197370/post-13050429

Finally, see a lot of references to using Dayco (OEM) branded parts for Tensioner assy and Idler pulley - any opinions on Bando belt from Amazon? Allegedly also OEM.
