Hi, fairly new to the forum and 4x4s. Just purchased an 80 last december and slowly doing maintenance to keep her in top shape. Anyway, where is a good place to go here in socal?

Big Bear: Gold Mountain, White Mountain, Pontiac Sluice and Jacoby Canyon are beginner friendly.

Corral Canyon in San Diego.

Cleghorn Trail(2N47).
Pilot Rock Truck Trail(2N33)

Anza Borrego (mentioned above) has plenty of trails/options:
Easy: sightseeing around Font's Point, Calcite Mine, Coyote Canyon, 17 Palms, Fish Creek Wash
Moderate: Canyon Sin Nombre, Arroyo Tapiado, Arroyo Seco Del Diablo (and Diablo Drop Off), Sandstone Canyon, Fish Creek Wash.
Hard: Heart Attack Hill, The Squeeze, Fish Creek Wash.

Recommend you hook up with a group and not wheel alone. Try to go with more experienced folks with same type of vehicle, at first anyway. Plenty of reasons for this, they'll know the capabilities of your vehicle. Also, if something breaks they'll be able to help you fix it.

I live around torrance. But my gf lives in barstow so I'm mostly there on the weekends. Thanks for all your responses. Any trail close to that area, i heard there is one in ghost town.

If you are going north on the 15, go pass the exit for Peggy sues, am/pm, and take the next exit north. Make a left and travel up to a dirt road on the right, can't miss it, it called mule canyon. It will take you all around the back of Calico. Lots of mines, and trails back there, should keep you busy, Kevin.

Trail ready

Before you hit the trails make sure your rig is in good shape it's no fun when you break down on the trail and costing you money that you could spend on maintenance and upgrades.Conrats on your new ride and have fun with it.:D

I've been to peggy sue. Thanks I'll check that out.

I've been doing maintenance on the 80. This forum is really great i learned a ton. Already did my PHH with the silicone kit changed the thermostat and used toyota red. Changed drive belts. My next one to tackle is the power steering pump, it somehow leaks on the back side. Anything particular I should check? So far no other leaks.
