Just purchased a 1989 FJ62 and battery keeps draining but I think its a new battery. Before I purchase new one, I'm trying to determine if something is "on" that is draining the battery. Reason I think this is because when I turn off truck and take key out of ignition, and then open drivers side door, I hear beeping, as if headlights or something else is on even though for the life of me everthing appears to be off. My questions is this - do all FJ62s beep when drivers side door is open - perhaps a door ajar warming - or does it only beep if something is "on" as a warning beep? I doubt it is a door ajar warning since the passanger side door does not beep, but at any rate I thought I would ask before I start troubleshoting and or replace with another battery. Thank you!

There is a warning buzzer in my 87 fj60 that goes off when the key is in the ignition and the door is open.

Assuming they are in a 62, then there might be something amiss in your ignition switch.

Agreed that cause of the buzzer could also be what's draining your battery.

I have an 85 fj60 and when I take the key out and open the drivers door mine beeps as well.... Has not had any effect on the battery... It only does it for 5 or 10 seconds

Are you sure the key is fully turned off? I can take the key out without fully turning off the car then it beeps. do you push the button on the top of the lock cylinder?

^^ This. I can take my key out at any position in the ignition switch (run, accessory, half way in between...). When I figured this out I pushed the button on the column, flipped the key to what I thought was off, opened the door, and the beeper was beeping. Reached in and inserted the key, jiggled it to find "off", no more beeping. All this considering the switch in the door jamb is working.

Does the FJ62 have a button on the column. I don't recall seeing one on mine. At any rate, I can't tell exactly from responses, but I does sound like I have a problem or something is "on" since I'm getting warming beeps when my key is out of ignition...

Yes. On the column there is a round button on the top of the column. You push it in and turn the key all the way to turbot off. If you don't then the radio and other stuff is still powered.

You can see it in this pic on the top right behind the steering wheel.
