So last night around 1 in the morning a 350 lb plus bear got stuck in my girlfriends 4Runner.He tore the s*** out of the interior before I could get him out,he completely malled the drivers seat, tore three of the door panels off, both plastic cargo area panels........So i might be dreaming here. But i wanted to see if anyone has a 1996 to1999 4 Runner that is being parted out.It has the Oak interior and is located in Northern California????????????

Let's keep in touch... I have a 99 4WD Ltd with tan leather interior that may need to be parted out.... Everything's perfect from the firewall back.

I thought about grabbing my camera, but grabbed my maglight and a hockey stick instead. The bear probably opened the door to look for food, but the door closed behind him.So he thrashed to try to get out,I was trying to get him out before he destroyed everything.I wish I did get a picture ,he was huge. Here are some pics

Yes its a mixture of funny, and sucks. The 4 Runner was in great shape, inside and out.No one got hurt ,and thrashing wasnt super bad.At least it will have a new inside soon???Bears are usually asleep now because there food is covered by snow until spring, but people dont deal with there trash correctly,so there is a year round supply of food....no there wasnt anything to eat in the car:)

Sell it with a "bearly used" interior! :D
That is crazy - good luck!

The bear opened the door? And then it closed behind him?

Mark...

Yes bears have evolved since Yogie Bear. They have broken into cars, houses, even special bear proof containers to your garbage in.They either lick, or just pull the handle up with there paw and in they go.The same bear broke into my roommates car last week and ate some oranges and crackers, but he was parked sideways on a hill so the door opened to the down hill and stayed open. The bear ate and left no problem. My girlfriends 4 runner was parked with the front end slightly up hill,so the bear went in the drivers door to find food, and the door shut behind him?No food so he wanted to leave,no way out so he tried to clawed at almost every window to get out.We think that he was in there for maybe 5,10 minuets???,before I was able to get a door open so he could get out.(Wish i had my camera)

Wow, that looks BAD! What kind of insurance do you/her have?

Back in the mid 80's, my dad and I went backpacking in the Tuolumne meadows area of Yosemite for four days. A bear decided he wanted to 'see' what was in my parents '76 Buick Estate Wagon (yes, it was white with the faux wood paneling, classy). He ripped all of the weather stripping from the rear roll-down window and dented the crud out of the hood and roof. He even tried to 'eat' part of the luggage rack. My dad had it fixed in a couple of days and I remember him saying, "the insurance paid for it".

Tahoe thanks for posting up some pics..ouch I wonder if that is a commercial for Toyota or not?
Long story short always lock the doors hey. I'm surprised it didn't break out a window... what a thrashing at any rate.
Perhaps I feel better sleeping in my 4Runner now or maybe not :hhmm:

Good luck in getting it fixed back up... unfortunately it's one cool 4Runner now as it comes with a great story.

Nice one  even my girlfriend laughed.

Thanks - glad you are able to laugh through this situation.
Still - taking a hockey sitck for a bear? You must clank when you walk!
I'd go against a bear with a .338 Win Mag, nothing less! :hillbilly:

As much as it hurts, it doesnt do any good to be pissed. No one got hurt and its just a car( an awesome, clean, low mileage, bitchin stero..bla bla bla car:crybaby::)
The hockey stick was the biggest thing i had at the time,if he came at me i would have cross checked him, thats only if he knew the no claws rule:)

a local guy down in San Jose parted out a 4runner at a shop... I believe he still has the full interior. When I saw it, it was missing bumpers and most exterior stuff. It was crashed in the front driver's side wheel/fender and door. Email me at jonsitf355@hotmail.com if you're intrested.

Just think you are bringing your drunk buddys home and one pukes, no big deal.
