Had an issue with my 60. Battery terminal post has been destoryed by bad connection and bush mechanic antics to get home! looking at doing a 3/8" std conversion.. essentially drilling in, using exhaust bolts (M10) and flange nuts to create new posts and use ring terminals with bolts on top to connect. Will redo terminals in process. Anyone done this? any tips/tricks? any help appreciated :) cheers

old time battery shops could re-cast the post, if one still exists in your area.

lets see a picture of your battery.

I'm not sure it can drilled and tapped. The kind of batteries that have that are not threads into lead. They use a metal nut. I cannot see tapped threads in lead working at all. It would strip out as soon as you went tight, or work loose again.

I like the idea of re-casting the posts above. Depending on your damage you might also be able to use some lead, heat it up with a torch in a pot and pour it onto a mold. I would take the battery out of the truck and out in the open air (with the proper gas mask, eye protection etc) melt the lead. You can buy a post connector, something than can be opened after. Place it over the post nice and low so the lead doesn't pour out. Then fill it up with lead. Try to remove the connector maybe before it gets 100% hardened..

Everything above is dreamt up. But not as far fetched at drilling into a battery and tapping.. maybe.

You could put a connector with a 3/8 stud as the casting form and then leave it there. Maybe even tighten it some more when it hardens.

or buy a new battery and be sure it will work.

the process above is basically what I was referring to, other than they would have a correct mold for the post.

we have the stuff in a cabinet in our shop to do this. the shop I work in has been around a long time.
