Does anyone know what guage diameter ("0", "2", "4", etc.) the positive starter wire (runs from the battery to the starter) and the negative starter wire is for a stock '99 100? As I am discovering if you want to upgrade to a gel type battery (Orbital in my case) a little creative rewiring is necessary.

I believe 4 gauge. But If you are upgrading, might as go all the way and do 2 gauge, or 1/0.

your local stereo shop should be able to hook you up. flex loom and zip ties would be some added safety measures.

I thought about going larger wire...can you access the starter's wire lug without the huge job of pulling the intake manifold & such? I don't have an FSM...probably need to get one soon

For custom cables these guys are awesome

Wrangler NW

I had them make all custom 1/0 cables with military terminals for my diesel Sub and they came flawless.

It looks like the only way to get to the starter cables is from the top by removing the intake manifold. etc. Is this correct?
