First off sorry to all those that thought that this was a thread about a battery powered cargo area light that I found and wanted to share with the world:doh: ...Instead this is me asking if anyone had thought about this before or know of anything that could work...

So to step back a bit i have seen lots of people that have torn into their ceilings and ran wiring from the second row seating light to put in another one right under the top hatch, well unfortunatley i am not that brave but still would like a light back there...I actually sent an email to George since he has had so much experience with LEDs but I know he must be a pretty busy guy.

Has anyone ever tried this? Seems like with all the technology with LEDs there should be a pretty darn good way to make one battery powered and last a pretty long time. Well hopefully someone can chime in on this one...Maybe Mot has some insight??? thanks to all:cheers:

You might try the RV and the truck "camper" sources.

Actually, I'm interested in an LED version to go in the back of my Tacoma so post up if you find something kewl. It has a Snugtop shell and the battery powered light that came with it is toast.

There is no need to run wires to the rear light as they are already there. When I fitted my fluro the only irreversible "damage" done to the headlining was the three tiny screw holes and one small hole for the wires. If you don't want to damage the headlining how do you plan on attaching the battery powered light? Even double sided tape would damage the headlining, if it held the weight.

Can anyone confirm Mickldo's statement about the wires already being there?

my 94 had the wires, it would be easy to access the back corner and verify for yourself if the wires are present. IIRC some with 95-97 trucks had the wires there already.

my '94 has the wires - a great mod for sure. seems trivial but in practice it is an awesome improvement
