Battery options for 1999 100 series.

So I pulled the trigger today on the stock Toyota with 7 year warranty. I got it for $120 and it will suffice for the next few years. I may be looking to add a second battery to the truck to run a fridge and accessories, but have also been looking into a goalzero or other such option.

I was forced into what was in stock as my battery was having issues keeping the truck running after start and I need this rig running. I like the Northstar/batteries plus options but $330 is a lot of cheese!
 
Search "AGM charging algorithm." Unless you have special battery needs or plan to plug your 100 into an AGM battery charger from time to time, I'd suggest getting the standard flooded lead acid battery.

OTOH, I just replaced the 10 YO Odyssey in my spressoWAGON.

That's really good life from an Odyssey. I'm averaging ~4.5 yrs life each on my 4 Odyssey batteries.

Sorry for my tardy reply Les 😂... Yes, I keep the LC batteries on a sun charger with Victron controller to keep the Odysseys happy in between trips which these days amounts to significant 'rest' time for it.
 
Time to replace the battery on my ‘00 LC. Vehicle is often in hot temps (85+) and will be running a Black Forest/Webasto fridge, USB chargers, and some lights. Would be nice to get a full 24h of runtime on the fridge, and have some overhead. Should I stick with the stock 27 or go to a larger capacity battery? The NorthStar/X2 Power group 27 was recommended to me - just wondering if there are other quality options out there that maybe aren’t in the $300+ price range.
 
I replaced my original battery with an X2 Power 27F (the OEM size) from Batteries Plus and it has been great.
Toyota/Lexus does not have an OEM size battery available.
 
This or a Sam's Duracell 49 AGM is what's going in my 100 with a spacer under it when my battery dies.
My sams was not showing 49’s when I bought my Napa but hell yah that would be my choice

I ended up going with this exact battery. I purchased from my local Battteries+Bulbs (Santa Ana). Smooth ordering experience and good pricing.

Chose this for a few reasons:

1) price - adding the cost of the slee tray and the difference between the price of the group 27f and 31, and the ~10% increase in battery capacity

2) risk - of bending the fender lining, I didn’t feel it would be in keeping with my OEM+ desired goals for my 2000 LC100.

So far I’m happy with the battery. Huge difference in cranking. Motors all seem to be spinning faster. All electronics are working greater than before. I got the radio reconnected and the speakers are all still working great after 20 years. I’m truly amazed at the build quality of this vehicle. Amazing engineering every little place you look. I love it. You can feel the old guy is happy again.

Centennial Commercial battery is what I run without issues.

Just put in a Toyota TrueStart for $118 including tax in my 2001. I looked into all the upgrades but really couldn't convince myself that there was a better value for my wife's stock daily driver.

Right and for something like that, then there definitely isn't a better value for a stock DD. I think guys here are more concerned about a higher output battery (or larger footprint) because lots run extra accessories and whatnot off the battery.

The rig I'm working on has a few accessories (lighting/fridge) and will be modded for always-on auxiliary connections, that alone justified having a higher capacity battery in my mind.
 
I'm in a bit of a time pinch, and the Toyota dealership is offering me a 27f true start for close to $200!

I'm eventually going to be running a fridge, dual battery system, and I'm trying not to buy things twice. Plan on running two macbook pros, drone, and camera equipment as well.

What would be a good future proof solution that offers the best bang for buck. Might go jackery, goal zero, or bluetti for my second battery option / solar hook up. Would like to have the alternator to charge said secondary batteries while on the go.

Should I buy the stock battery, or would I be needing a different battery to be able to tackle these goals.
 
I tested my 27F this past weekend. Left my fridge and chargers connected for a solid 24 hours - no issues starting. Carry a jump starter as a backup. I personally don't feel a need to add more weight cost, and complexity by adding another battery.
 
I think group 49 agm drops in. Sams Club or Napa legend agm will be under $200. If your battery is dead then just buy one of those I’d the battery is still good take the plunge on getting the dual battery add kit. You’ll still want an agm for all those accessories if that is final destination.

Great warranty and fully covered my replacements on the X2. I had a brand new alternator installed and still had the trouble. I'm not convinced the standard alternator can properly charge and therefore maintain the life of an AGM.

The AGM is being relegated to my trailer for a solar install and will be kept healthy with regular recharges using an AGM charger.

The Northstar needs a higher voltage than what the alternator delivers normally. You can increase the voltage by replacing the factory fuse with a 1amp diode at the ALT-S fuse location. This is a well documented and known-to-work modification.
