Hello

Have a question regarding which battery would be the best for the BJ40. Also which size etc.

I went to Firestone auto care but their system didn't show any for Fj40 they have on system.

Just have them match your existing battery Cold Cranking Amps (CCA).
Do you have one or two batteries. BJ40 typically have two batteries which means a 24 volt system with a 24 volt starter, also deep cycle batteries are best for diesel applications.

If the BJ40 came from this part of the world (and was sold new here) then it will indeed be 12V.

Choose the biggest you're prepared to fit in the cradle because both the preheat and starter draw a lot of amps on a diesel. (I think Toyota originally fitted the minimum size they could get away with.)

This is what I used in my BJ40 but I had to enlarge my tray slightly to fit it..

Just one 12 volt battery is a 4 cylinder diesel. Okay I will look for the cca

HI ticofj , go to 100ah is the correct size for a b engine running 12v (720-760 cca ) maybe you have to resize the battery tray like lostmarbles said.

Infact the old 40 battery tray is for a 70ah battery (L3-70 european size code) because i think the 40 was originally 24v and two of them are enough

a curiosity : like said the first generation of bj40 has the battery tray for l3-70 26cm x 17cm

the second generation of bj40 and 42 (after 1980) has the tray bigger , it can accomodate a g28100 (100ah 760cca) 30cm x 17cm

cheers

ps sorry for my english ...i'm trying to improve it enjoing the forum !!

Thanks for the reply. Do you think the mega tron plus 27F will work? it is 710cca and 165 RC. The battery that it had was 675CCa 95AH

hi , yes it will work , anykind of "good" starting battery with that cca will work . the question is : it will last ? depends on the quality...

to be honest i saw a 42 with two 50 ah battery working but off course this pair doesn't last much specially in the winter

cheers

Holy thread necro!!

I just joined in to say.. I miss @lostmarbles . :(

Batteries these days aren't as good as they were IMHO. Big fan of buy the largest batteries you can get to fit. Plural because 2 is better than one. 12V system I would do a rocking knife blade switch on the positive. With the rocker you can have battery 1 connected, both or battery 2. Extend the battery box to provide full support.
