I have been involved with an anti-trafficking organization here in Utah for about six months and recently sold my F150 to purchase my first LC100. I love it, put a heavy OME 3" lift with 33 Toyo AT Extreme's. I plan to install ballistic protection as we do a lot of personnel interdiction in areas where we're often in extreme danger and high threat. Since we're mostly a group of retired military/LEO we understand the risk and know our limits. But as the world is getting more crazy by the minute I'm looking to put ballistic protection as gun violence is now our 50 meter target as opposed to the 200. Anyone have an ideas for ballistic protection? I have metal MOLLE racks in the back for equip, a "gun cabinet" built by Huracan Fabrication for the tailgate, dark tint around and a few other ideas to be built. Looking for help from some of you prepper-type brothers who have been in this situtation with a super clean jet black 2005 LC with dark interior.

Not sure what you're looking for but I've been following Texas Armoring Corporation on Facebook for a while and they modify all types of vehicles including a trio of 78's just 2wks ago. They're based out of San Antonio so I know it's a little ways from you but I've heard they do excellent work. They also do a lot of custom work for uparmoring hoods, fenders, partial opening windows, radiator protection, night vision systems, etc...

Thanks Forger, I'll check their site out. It might be worth a drive down to TX!

As heavy as the 100 is... hopefully someone is doing something with carbon fiber.

You're going to be better off buying a used outfitted vehicle if you are truly looking for ballistic protection. Keep an eye out for money carrier vans as well.

If all you want is some door cards, check gov auction leo vehicles to see if any still have small arms panels.

If the vehicle needs to have a level of protection, consider a look at gov auctions. '08 and newer vics, and many of the explorers and Tahoe's depending how optioned they were will have ballistic door cards.

These panels are effective and well tested.

Was told to add - check out the Caprice PPV. On the inside door panel in front of the window switch panel you will see a decal noting if there are ballistic panels in the vehicle factory. PPV's were often optioned with ballistic panels as their power, maneuverability, stability at high speeds, and strong braking marks made them great pursuit vehicles. More expensive to maintain but apparently the six liter L77 and six speed auto makes up for it in smiles.

No way in the world I'd use my POV for any work. I assume human trafficking and not narcotic based stuff. Every door card I have kept and old vest insertsI have laying around I always hang on to since they "expire" every 5 years. My G car is in no way uparmored at all since it's all UC based stuff. I'd just equip yourself and forget about the vehicle. Besides,a tinted out black SUV stands out way too much....you're asking for the attention :)

You're right, we're doing human trafficking. We're stateside and there's no G-vics that are LC's, at least not stateside. We're using our POV's since there's never funding for anything, not even fuel for our ops so we do what we can. We're not going after the traffickers directly so we don't come off as a direct threat to them, which isn't a whole lot better but we do what we can. I've driven a bunch of armored LC's downrange and they're little tanks but nimble enough to squeeze into small alleys, unlike the larger SUV's normally used. Anyways, I usually keep a few vests, plates, kits, etc in my vehicle for when the call comes, often times like UC work. Thanks for the input my brother.

Whatever you end up with, Godspeed. Go f*** their s*** up, and stay safe.

That’s pretty awesome Doxy, know some folks that serve in ministry on that front. This travesty is getting exposed more all the time and many are running to the battle. I serve in a prayer ministry and we cover specific teams, operations, and areas from time to time but keep the issue lifted up consistently. Godspeed Man!

time for an upgrade? while browsing through craigslist this keeps popping up. looking at the lot in the background, looks like they have a lot to choose from.

Get a B6 like above and dont ruin your personal cruiser with heavy armour. I have a 200 series B6 for use in Afghanistan and is not enjoyable to drive. But it protects! My driver hit a roadside IED coming to collect me from a meeting and was fine other than some bruising. The cruiser was a write off though.

Ballistic Armor SME here, I work DoD armor development projects, primarily for body armor and aircraft.

Steel is going to be your cheapest option, but far and away the most weight. You can figure around 1000-1500 lbs additional weight needed to fully cover the vital areas of your vehicle. It all depends on the threat protection level you require, NIJ IIIA seems appropriate. At that level you'd need about .200" AR500 or Armox steel to be compliant.
Other options include lightweight UHMWPE armor systems. This will be the most expensive, but the total weight on your vehicle will be around 200 lbs for the same threat protection that the steel offers.

Do no use Kevlar/Aramid as it deteriorates in humid/hot environments unless it is entirely environmetally sealed. There's a reason police vests get replaced every 2-4 years.

Aluminum and carbon composites are terrible armor materials. Fiberglass, with enough thickness, can be used to defeat small arms soft core threats, like handgun and lead core rifle rounds.

Unforturnately the company i work for does not do NSCV up-armoring at this time or i'd likely be able to offer you a package for the 100 since its one of the most common vehicles overseas, behind the HILUX.
