Depends how Friday goes ( my birthday on fri)?

just got off phone with camp edison (shaver lake). Since last night snow has been falling at 3-4" per hour (lots if snow). it is snowing from the top of 4 lane up.

I just called prather forestry office (just below the 4 lane) and they confirm it is only raining in prather but snowing higher. They reminded me chains are required to head into shaver. I told the attendent I have 42" tires on my truck to which she replied, "if we find you stuck and without your chaines with you you will get a ticket." They likely wont be manning a checkpoint but if they are chaines are required front and rear. I need to make myself some 42" chains (damn)

As of right now Im still planning to go to the cabin regardless friday. if the snow stalls out friday leaving potentially good weather (and fresh plowed roads) for the weekend then this sat wheeling trip up bald mtn is a go. We potentially wont wheel far in feet of fresh powder but at leaste recovery wont be attempted in a blizzard. And if we are lucky enough to have easily packing snow who knows. If the road is open and the skys clear other wheelers will be at the trail head sat am.

Will wait and see what happens in the next 48hours and ill post up

OK they can suck it. How are you going to get stuck? . WHy do they let 4 wheel drive rigs go by chain controlled area and don't ask to see chains? Sh*t I know nothing.

I will see you Saturday.

Fixed it for you.

Lots of snow

Just got back from Sierra Summit, awesome day! Buckets of snow. I'll be up there this weekend skiing more, can't beat fresh powder. You guys enjoy your expedition and I'll try not to break a leg!

I just looked at the weather report. It's probably not going to be a good idea to tow even with a 4wd. The weather calls for heavy snow all day tomorrow with a high of 32 and snow on Saturday morning with a high of 35. There will be a lot of ice.

ive been making calls. shaver is a mess. im still going to cabin. But my crawler isn't. taking the 100 series. I hope I get to the cabin. takin chains. everyone crazy enough to try (good budy Dan) is welcome to come over Sat and play in the snow. Will have a 4x4 quad at the cabin. if you come up drive down the driveway into the cabin slow so you dont plow into my garage.

is the 168 wide open enough to tow heavy with a 2wd truck?

Yes. It would only be trickey when passing the plowing equipment.

It has come to the sad realization that there is just too much fresh power up there. WIth 6' of fresh snow, we wold be a submarine rather that a cruizer. We are going to change to a trip after the 1st.

I am still going up there you duche! We are going to hang out at the cabin, ride quads, and sledding. We plan on using a rope behind the FJCruiser and use the sleds like a wake board.

It's actually spelled douche.

Are you sure you won't need a rope for the FJ Cruiser? Hahahahahahaha!

Yea Dan get it right. Arn't you supposed to be teaching our kids about the english language. great use of all the colledge you wasted

X2

"English" teacher, pshaw!

My bad douche...it is French, not English so piss off! :flipoff2:

OK here is the report (pics later) … there was a wall of snow about 6' high at the trailhead to Bald. There was a jeep trying to make it and this was the most set-up jeep I have ever seen with portals, 42 Iroks, sm420, klune, and old style atlas and it took him over 2 hours to make it 30 yards max. He was standing on his rockers talking to me with the rig in gear making about an inch every 2 minutes.

It will be at least March before anyone is making it to the top and only after snowmobiles run it first.

We took my FJ Cruiser and Dustin's Wife's 100 series to the trailhead. Lots of snow on the road so I pretended I was a Rally Racer in Germany driving a Subaru sports car (my rig handles like a dream in the snow so I was able to do power slides around corners. Dustin on the other hand had a bit of bad luck. First he almost took out a family of sleders and then, driving like Miss Daisy, he somehow does a 360 in the road and hit not only his front driver side corner, but flipped around and hit the back driver side corner also. He was very lucky the snow was soft or he would have totaled his wife's car. Too bad I missed that for a picture opportunity, but I was doing about 50 or 60 mph to his 25 mph and I was already at the bottom of the road on 168 when it happened.
