I have replaced the cap and rotor on my distributor (PN 29100-60042) but i am not getting spark to the plug according to my timing light on 2,3 and 5. I changed out the plug wires and it did not make any difference so that is not the issue. Spark is fine on 1,4,6. So my coil is at least producing spark. Could my distributor only provide partial spark? I do not fully understand the inner workings of a distributor but I checked vac advance and it seems to be working. If i hold the shaft, i can rotate the rotor and it springs back so i think my mechanical advance is OK. Could it be a bad cap? Last item, i have ready this on a few different threads but when i tighten the clamp on the distributor to the engine, it slightly changes the timing. I believe this is normal.

Pull one of the plug wires off of 2,3, or 5 and ground it to the block while some one cranks it over look for spark jumping to ground. The distributor works the same for all cylinders. The cap and rotor is what gives spark to the different cylinders.

Feel for lateral movement on the shaft. If the shaft is worn, it could be affecting the points opening and closing. I had this issue and had to get a new distributor. However, if you install a pertronix kit, it is MUCH more forgiving on shaft wear because instead of adhering to .018 gap all around, it is a magnetic field that can handle this wear.

The points do not look very good, my guess is your problem is solved after replacing and adjusting the points.

Agree, the points look toasted and out of adjustment.

Tried to replace the points but they were the wrong ones. I Cleaned everything up with some carb cleaner and and adjusted the points again to .018. All is good now. I am getting spark on all cylinders, running well and pulling 20.5 inches of vacuum.
